With my 1st ever park run for my graduation on Saturday I tried a route similar to the park run I.e. a bit of a hill in the middle. So close to reaching that 5k target - just short by about 160yds! Apologies for using old money (5k = 3.1 miles; 5,468yds...).
We’re all doing different times, and different reasons, and this might look fast. But for me, if I can’t do 5k in 30mins NHS will probably put me on pills to prevent heart attack / stroke, and I really don’t want that.

There were hills! You can do 5k on flats... that keeps the NHS happy as they don’t need to budget too much for you, and rumour has it Boris wasn’t on point and the NHS may need that money still!
Some parkruns are worse than others... if you need a boost and are in the north west, try Stretford... 8ft elevation change and some of it is on a running track!
No, but if I don’t get my cholesterol, BP and weight down I’ll be on tablets, as I’m in a high risk category. I’ve tried other exercise and only running is making a difference to the weight & BP, but only when I push myself to the absolute limit. I’m hoping at my next checkup I’ll have done enough to avoid having to take medication - if so then I’ll just need to keep on running!
I wonder if when you have achieved your 30 min aim, that longer slower runs will help just as much? I am sure with your healthy eating plan it will come together. Good luck for that graduation run 👍🏼
