46, smokes for 35 years, no exercise in 30. Can’t do a sit up, cut back on the smokes, ready to quit. I tried Nike Running Club for two weeks, but I can’t advance with it as I can’t run for the minimum 10 minutes required. So I spoke to my local marathon runners, and they said their running club had couch to 5k groups all the time. So here I am! I can run for one minute... hopefully I can do that multiple times.
Going out tomorrow for week 1 run 1. I will not smoke tomorrow, I will graduate, and I will run a marathon. Marathon Du Medoc appeals to me for some reason :D. I’ve trained for the wine drinking but, now I have to get my butt running.
Just thought I’d say Hi to all of you newbies or graduates... we got this!

In my experience, smoking and running definitely don't mix, so you've got a great motive to give up the former!
I gave up smoking ten years ago. I really notice when I run or even walk fast past someone who is smoking in the street that for a minute or so after it becomes far more difficult to keep going.
I’ll watch out for that. I have been using a meditation app and it has stop smoking sessions, I expect to do it about 20 times tomorrow! I will not light up though, no matter what.
My excuse for years was Bobby Charlton smoked a pack a day at his peak... now I’m thinking how good would he have been if he hadn’t?
Good luck today! Week 1 was hard for me, but I found myself hooked and got through to graduate last week. Read the advice from Mentors and Admins and listen to your body - it will have a good winge at you - but the ‘rest’ days should be sufficient repair time. If not, just take an extra repair day - no problem
Go for it - it’s tough but so rewarding! Use the group for support - it got me through and I graduated! I never thought I would! Believe you can and you will! 🏃♂️🏃♀️
