A while ago I went on a trial run with a running club. I’d already done c25k, b210k and a couple of races. Although I completed the trial run within their set target time, the next day I had a sloppy email from this club telling me to an old folks walking group!
My gym trainer heard about this and recommended me to a different club, which has been great.
Yesterday I completed my first half marathon, and now waiting for the medal in the post - and looking forward to the next one! Don’t ever let people tell you that you can’t run, that’s rubbish. Don’t ever let people tell you you’re not fast enough: run and enjoy, that’s the important thing.

Huge well done to you...! We can do exactly what we want to, how we want and at our own pace.... so, take a photo of you in your HM Medal... send it to the group who told you you could not run and ask if they would like to see what a great runner they let go!!!
Our offspring belong to this disgrace of a running club (who advertise that they welcome newcomers!), and they are just waiting for their next club meeting to look himself in the eye and politely tell him he was wrong.
That's the great thing with running - there's always another challenge, another 'windmill to tilt at'; so very best wishes for your next half.
Although our actual race/s were cancelled, we were allowed to run them virtually.
We really missed the crowds and supporters - it was eerily quiet, and we didn't run on the official route, we were allowed to select our own route near home. The Apple and Strava has been uploaded and sent off and accepted - medals in the post. Looking forward to the next one (in a few weeks), now just waiting for the postman!
Meanwhile, very best of good luck wishes for yours - it will taste all the sweeter for the waiting. I can't wait to get into the same age group that you mentioned - I'm about a year or so behind you.
Mine too was an option, but I decided it would be fun to look forward to it a HM around the garden did not appeal, although I have about 1.5K of ground to run in!
My quack always asks me if I’ve thought of taking up an activity. Then out comes the phone, and I make a point of showing both my Apple records and my Strava records. Quack then stops asking silly questions.
I’m so lucky to have a good gym trainer, a smashing running club, some great running gear, and some wonderful race organisers too!
