Not quite IC but ouch!

My lovely, cool mesh vest top seems to have a bite - it also acted as a cheese grater on my right nipple last run 😳

Antiseptic cream and a plaster donned today.

Being hairy in that area, not looking forward to removing the plaster later 😱

Bodyglide, or Vaseline might do the job.

Ouch! Meshing things sadly do like to let in biting things...unless you can get them made out of tiny midge netting! Not sure about the answer to nipple rub. Perhaps Google it? I’m sure I’ve heard of people taping their nipples to avoid it, but no idea what with. ❀️☹️

I’m now imagining you setting off with bits of Duct tape attached to you!! I’d check what sort of tape if you want to try it...πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate in reply to mountaindreamer

Actually duct tape is really good for avoiding blisters. Stick a strip on where you are prone to it and it wards them off. (Don’t do this if you are diabetic!)

mountaindreamer profile image
mountaindreamerGraduate in reply to Jay66UK

I was more worried about what was going to happen to your hairy bits when you tried to pull the stuff off!! 😳❀️

Cazzajambo profile image
Cazzajambo in reply to Jay66UK

Really never knew that . Why can't you do it if it diabetic tho just asking cause nosey

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate in reply to Cazzajambo

You have to be really careful with your feet due to circulation issues. Pulling off the duct tape could take skin with it and be a slow heal.

mrrun profile image

Plasters. I do it now that both nipples went sore a few days ago. Normally when I wear ultra tight body layer under the vest, that's not needed. However, with vest on its own - it is more than needed.

PaulBrad profile image

Hi Jay66UK - I suffered with exactly the same. My nip was itchy at work after a run so I gave it a scratch and bugger me it started to bleed. In my haste to by a plaster I ended up buying corn plasters!! The tape that was recommended is called micropore - but if you are hairy (as I am) I can tell you that running with it on is NOT fun - it sticks really well which means it pulls the hairs with the motion of running. I found cheap plasters were best while still a little raw they sort of float on the hairs and provide a barrier between the nipple and shirt. I sympathize - surprisingly painful.

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate in reply to PaulBrad

Cheers, mate. I’ve gone for a small round plaster out of my Tesco value plaster box and, as you say, it’s surfing my nipple hairs.

I’ve got some dressing tape (effectively a roll of plaster with no cotton pad) that I had planned to start using once I was doing longer runs. Didn’t think I’d need it yet. Bought the antiseptic cream at the same time - lucky I’m a worrier!

in reply to Jay66UK

I'd suggest shaving those nips to help with the plaster issue. Given it might look a little odd, just do your entire chest. It'll help with the heat too!

Flaraflarkin profile image
FlaraflarkinGraduate in reply to

If you do choose this option Jay66UK please shave a face or something more creative (maybe corn circles??🀣) into your chest before ripping the whole lot off! 😱 Photographic evidence required, needless to say! 😬😬

Be very careful when removing the plaster, perhaps vaseline might have been better, hopefully, it will heal quickly.

I ran for 20 minutes this morning but because it was not too hot, the temperature was around 16C I decided to continue my run/walking session. After a 10 minute walk I continued to walk/run for a further hour and 3 minutes, all off road and through parkland, overall my app told me that I had completed 10K in 1:33:11 seconds at an average pace of 09:17/km, the fasted pace was 06.23 between the 5th and 6th kilometre, the slowest when walking was 11.03 between the 4th and 5th kilometre. Later this week I hope to run a full 5k in around 37 minutes based on this morning times.

Oooch Jay, not sure whether you have nipple rash from the mesh of your new top or an insect got you through it from the replies. If it is the texture of the top you may have to line it with another fabric at that area otherwise it will keep doing it. Plaster on hairy chest does not sound good. You don’t seem to have had this problem before so it might be worth a letter to the manufacturer.

Another entertaining read Jay, thanks for that πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Hope your nip gets better quickly.

Funnily enough I was jogging along on my 10k this week (thought I’d just mention that again πŸ˜‰) and was wondering at what sort of distance chafing starts to become an issue. Had previously heard of all sorts of horror stories (usually involving plasters and Vaseline) re nipples and various parts of the β€œshorts area”.

So far however, I’m very happy to report, I’ve been entirely β€œchafe-free” πŸ˜€

Great post, not that I wish you or your man nipples and pain or discomfort of course.

I was only thinking during my run last night, whilst sweating buckets, that I needed to invest in a nice cool mesh running top like Jays.

Think you might have scared me and my nipples away from that idea.

Just deploy mitigation measures - some tape on the prominent bits or some vaseline/ Lanacane.

it really does seem odd that they just make these tops which seem likely to cause this! What a literal pain. I hope it feels better soon - chafing anywhere is no fun but let's face it that's particularly sensitive.

Glad you posted though, people should talk about these issues as you can't be the only one! Also, ahem, good to get it off your chest <runs away>

Jay66UK profile image

Ha!

The most frustrating thing is I had bought some antiseptic cream and a roll of tape bandage preempting possible need as I face up to trying for 10k.

So I had the stuff to treat it and it feels like I’ve kind of jinxed myself.

I have this problem. I was running in cotton vests and in the changeing room I noticed there was blood on my towel. Initially I thought I had probably scratched myself then I saw myself in the mirror. Two bloody spots where the blood had been diluted by sweat and leeched out! I then bought some running tops, Higher State, Β£4.99 from sports shoes, light non-rubbing, seems to have done the trick. Get a little mild irritation but that is probably hardening them up a bit and hopefully once my moobs shrink it will be less of a problem!
