W8R3 and Roald Dahl’s coffin

Wasn’t sure I’d run this morning as I didn’t eat yesterday - no reason just didn’t fancy it. Anyway one cup of coffee later I found that I was dressed to run so despite it being 22 degrees at 9 am off I went. Kept to the flat and shade and thanks to my new Garmin I think I might have managed 3.93k. The first (hopefully) accurate distance I’ve recorded. Happy with that.

Now to the coffin! Apparently Roald Dahl is buried with a power saw, a bottle of burgundy, his snooker cues, some chocolate and I think something else but my friend Sarah interrupted at that point to say I had 5 min to go. Thanks Sarah. He also had a drawer handle in his kitchen made from a piece of steel used in his pelvis during a failed hip replacement. Podcast #117 if you’d like more (useless) info.

That shower afterwards was probably one of the most thorough I’ve had in years. Did you know that you could sweat THERE? Feeling optimistic about next week and (sorry Oldfloss) I think I may continue on to week 9 despite my 1 min walk in run 2 this week. Best news of all - it’s likely to be much cooler on Tuesday ( don’t think I’ve said that since 1976!!!!!!!)

P.S. Has anyone mislaid a crutch (see photo). It’s a blurry photo because (pay attention Oldfloss) I DIDNT STOP RUNNING! 😁

This is going a bit Blair Witch Project :-) Coffins. Abandoned crutches. Spooky hand-held blurry photos. Odd uses for previously rejected body parts. Some Texas Chain Saw Massacre things thrown in for good measure. Head cheese for breakfast. The shower scene from Psycho.

We're all becoming deranged from the heat.

Nice run tho, hon!! Well done. But you may need to lie down for a while... :-) xx

Didn’t realise that post would read so ‘dark side’! I’ll pick some upbeat facts on Tuesday.

Nooo!! I loved it. It was just a bit "every horror trope you've ever thought of" rolled into one funny post.

Be yourself!! And we'll hide behind the couch :-)

That’s very funny because I never watch horror films. I found Raiders of the Lost Ark too much (snakes resulted in a red wine stain on my dressing gown as I jumped) walked out of a Brighton cinema in 1976 (ish) while watching Straw Dogs (my very new husband said “ok I’ll meet you in the foyer”!!) and there was a space film once that resulted in me leaving my own living room!! Very lightweight!

You’ve got to eat if running, that’s how you fuel yourself. Coffee could dehydrate you further. Correct fuel helps prevent cramps and injuries, especially in this weather. If your muscles rebel as a result, that can stop you from running. We often figure out that we messed up once it’s too late.

Thanks. I realise it wasn’t the best plan not having eaten but I didn’t actually feel unwell and coffee is my usual pre-run fuel/breakfast. Again it’s a case of I know what I should do but . . . . ! I already suffered from starting without proper shoes but corrected that (once I had a problem 😞). As my mum used tell me - I’m old enough to know better!!

Your journey...your way :) Well done you!!

The interesting facts are... interesting!!! Thank you for them:)

The abandoned crutch... eeek.. i hope there was not an abandoned owner anywhere... !

PS

Try to eat... light and tasty ...small portions often maybe whilst it is so warm... it is hard...but we do need fuel for our runs... and of course water:)

I have lost too much weight whilst being on the the IC.. first with the infected Horsefly bite and subsequent week of antibiotics, zero appetite... and now with the knee issue!!

I am just trying now to get some weight back on to maintain a level of fitness for my strength and stamina work outs!

Just about to enjoy.. avocado on toast with a poached egg on top!!!

Think I just replied to myself - was meant for you. Learning to use tech as well as run apparently!!

You’ve not had an easy journey - my worst was a sore foot (rookie mistake - new trainers sorted that). Hopefully you’ll recover your weight and strength soon and get off that IC. I always prefer the term injury reserve like they have in the NFL. Meanwhile I enjoy your updates and encouragement. Thank you. (Your lunch inspired me yesterday too - love it!)
