Hi everyone I've just started having got some proper shoes, and downloaded the app. First run yesterday and my thighs today are telling me I'm out of shape big time. I'm starting the S&F routine later today. I had some treatment for a touch of the big C which seems to have been successful but I feel tired and shagged out, as they say, most of the time so I'm hoping this will help. I'm of the age when running tracks were made of cinders and running shoes were called plimsolls so I've a few years to catch up on. 5k in 30 minutes or less here I come.

Well done for getting off the couch sparkyjohn . I found the first week the hardest in the programme (just finished week 8). Your body is wondering what the hell is going on. I had all sorts of aches and pains. It gets easier - you'll get stronger surprisingly quickly. Good luck!

Cheers Mike, it's not just my body wondering, my wife is bemused as well. I appreciate the encouragement, Joh

Hi John and welcome. Although the plan is called Couch to 5k it’s actually more Couch to running 30mins.

Take your runs slow and steady and remember your rest day between each run. Don’t bust a gut trying to run 5k in sub 30. 😊

Enjoy the programme - it really does work. 👍🏼

Thanks for you advice. I'll use your mantra "Don't bust a gut" tomorrow when I start run 2!

Well done. Keep at it, the thighs will soon stop hurting, I promise. X

Well done to you. Don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back. Little triumphs will take you a long way.

Thanks for reply. I'll need to do more stretches before I can reach to pat myself on the back but I'll take your advice and enjoy the little wins. John

Well done John, great start. As for the fatigue following your brush with the Big C... I can totally empathise as I suffer fatigue and joint and muscle pains from being Hypothyroid and more recently had a stroke so stroke fatigue has added a double whammy... but the good news is I find the fitness from running actually helps with the fatigue and aches and pains. You mileage may vary but I'm sure you've looked into the health benefits.

...welcome to the club!

Cheers Cliff, my health issues are not in the same league as yours and I'll take inspiration from you. Good luck and thanks for the welcome

Within one hour sparkyjohn you have had great advice, empathy from a fellow fatigue sufferer, encouragement from those who have gone before, use this community in conjunction with the programme and you won't look back, welcome to the C25K club

Hello and welcome Sparkyjohn.

There are a lot of us more mature runners who have completed the programme, so you can definitely do it! Slow and steady at all times is the secret. Forget the 5k just at the moment, instead concentrate on running for the required minutes.

Happy running 🏃🏻🏃🏻‍♀️

Hello and thanks for the welcome. Your right that the 5k is a target too far at the moment, but week 9 run 3 is only 26 runs away (maybe more) and that will be a good enough result for me. John

Thank you for the welcome. "Slow and steady" how many times, about so many things have I been told? It should be tattooed on the inside of my eyelids . Thanks again, John.

I'm at an age where... I forget, but I'm not as young as I used to be! I also suffer, but from fatness. However, this hasn't stopped me from getting to week 5, so if I can do it, you can too! (Week one hurt the most...)

Thanks for that. When it's raining and cold outside I'll read these posts again and they will get me going. Cheers John

Fabulous you’re getting out there John! It’s true about the body getting used to the programme. I’m starting W5 next week *touch wood* pain free, but I remember doing W1 and wondering how on earth I was supposed to walk downstairs!

Enjoy it! Trust the programme and take it slower than slow and you’ll get there! Remember to keep us updated with your progress too! 😀
