Go early before it gets hot. Believe in yourself and believe in the programme. It works. It may feel hard at first but all things are at first.

DON'T! 😉

I'm joking. 😁

Take it slow, don't go too fast too soon, like everybody here you'll suddenly start enjoying it.

Find someone at same stage and egg each other on.

Enjoy!

Hey. Not ran since the forced running at school twenty years ago. So I knew how you felt. Just about to finish week 6.

Deffo go before it gets too warm. If you are really struggling and getting out of breath then slow down, there is no race. If you're completely new to running you'll probably be doing a slow plod, this is great and perfectly acceptable. The program really does work it's quite amazing to witness, trust in it, trust in yourself. And finally, have fun, I can't believe I am saying this but I love running! Wish I'd started years ago.

You got this!

If you can I would at the moment given this heatwave we’re experiencing, recommend going very early morning there’s a nice chill in the air which helps keep you cool as you warm up. Don’t get hung up on speed that will come with time, slow and steady wins the race. I’d never ran until 7 weeks ago, I’m approx 5st over weight 4”11 and I managed to run a mile in just over 17 mins yesterday. You can do it, believe in yourself and remember you’re going faster than those sat at home on the sofa. Good luck. X

All the running parts are a slow jog. Wear as little as you are comfortable wearing as it’s unbearably hot. Go very early. Drink plenty of water the rest of today.

Thank you all for the advice! I’m going to go after the school run so about 9am . Hopefully it won’t be to hot by then . I’m really excited to see where I am in nine weeks :)

Well done for starting the programme! Lots of us were not runners. It's an amazing programme if you believe in it. Go slow, really slow and you will be a runner in no time! Good luck!

Great support on here as ever, you'll find it really helpful and there's a blog somewhere with all the advice you need. PS I used to hate running but now I'm almost a convert. Week 5!

Well done for starting. You won’t regret it. There are loads of success stories on this forum including people like myself who were totally unathletic and nervous. It really does work and you’ll be so proud of yourself. Let us know how it goes.

Run slow. And then slower if you need to! Have something great to listen to. Be well hydrated- really important in this heat. And enjoy!! It is amazing! ☺☺

Welcome to the wonderful world of C25k, I am sure you won’t regret it, you have made a great start by deciding to do it, and secondly by sharing your post on here. As others have said , take the run bits (jogs) as slowly as you can, forget the 5k bit, the aim by the end of week 9 is to run continuously for 30 minutes three times in a week. Dont be daunted by that, it may seem a million miles off when you do your first run, but the programme is brilliant at stretching you a little bit further each week, but preparing you so that you are better able to cope and finally, don’t be afraid to ask for advice, you will find this the most supportive group of people you could wish to meet, happy running 🏃🏾‍♀️

Biggest battle is making sure you put your trainers on, getting out and doing it. Don't put your runs off is my advice, drink plenty of water in the hours up to the run and definitely go to the loo before, nothing worse than running and needing to go mid run ! ;-)

Ianotruffe (I think that is how it is spelt) has done a brilliant post with lots of tips and it’s definitely worth taking note of the need for rest (‘repair’, as sallenson puts it) days. Don’t be afraid to post if things get difficult - someone would have gone through it as well and you’re not alone. Finally - relax, breathe, put one foot in front of the other, and enjoy it!

Ooooo ooooo I forgot - take a look at a You Tube video about ‘Slow running’. It features a Japanese doctor and it’s brilliant, all about avoid injury and enjoying the process. I only just saw it and realised that’s how I try to run. It’s a great start point and when people say ‘go slow’ that’s what they mean :)
