Extreme Heat!!!!

Was supposed to run yesterday evening but temperatures reached 30 degrees, so thought maybe tonight. But it’s still too hot. Do any of you beginners run in this heat? I tried a few weeks ago but the heat made me feel quite ill and I couldn’t complete the run. I’m due to start w7 r1. So probably need the right conditions. Feel a bit of a wuss not going out but I don’t think it will hurt too much 🙄

I’m on week 2. I went out around 8-30 this evening it was quite cool to be honest . I’m not close to running as long as you at the moment but might be worth trying late evening if it’s been a hot day

I went out this morning at 6 and by 6.30 when I was at the end of my (not very fast) run it was already getting quite uncomfortable. I went out a few weeks ago when it was hot and nearly keeled over, I felt really terrible. I'm not great at early mornings but it's the only way I can manage to run at the moment.

Many beginners do run in the extreme heat, but I think you will find that fewer experienced runners do, simply because it is unpleasant and not much fun.

It is light well before 5am these days and that is the best time to get in a coolish run.

Hydrate fully the evening before.

I hate the heat and am just taking extra days between runs (about to start week 9). Sometimes I get up extra early, but I also want to enjoy the runs, so just spacing them out.

I tend to go early to avoid the heat: this morning I went at 6.30am. Caught the rain but it was pleasant! (I‘m a relative beginner - graduated about a month ago.) Can’t be dealing with above 18 degrees tbh. 😂

I went out at 8 am yesterday to run w7r1. Biiig mistake. It was way too hot, and I had to stop after about 17 minutes. Very disappointing but I have to remember that I find running in hot weather really difficult. My partner reminded me that 8 weeks ago I found it difficult to complete week 1 and I realised that even a 17 minute run is a major achievement. Will try again tomorrow when it’s cooler

Hi. I ran at 9am yesterday, already mid 20's but most of my run in shade of lovely cooling trees. Perhaps find a shady run or go earlier as others recommend.

I've pretty much had to abandon the plan about a month ago after the hot weather kicked in. I was on week 8 and just couldn't get past 25 mins as was always too hot. Now I just keep going out and doing what I can (taking rests when I need too) and I know ill finish the plan when its cooler!

Well done on still going out and doing what you can!

Thanks! I thought it best just to keep 'ticking over'. I actually find interval training works best for me as it gives me a 'heat break'. So I can still run 25 mins but it takes me 30 to do it :-)

Please find links to my recent posts here. I love running in the heat, and if you do everything right there's no reason why you can't enjoy it too.

Love that post!

I was out at 6am on Wednesday to miss the worst of the heat - that was 8.1 so 28 minutes, was actually ok but getting warm when I finished.

Today, I wasn’t in the mood really and only went at 7.30am much cooler, but it’s gone humid. Was hoping to be crack 4K (didn’t) however i was happy just to complete it today.

I discovered I just can’t run in the heat. Leapt out of bed to do my second 5k run and 3k in to it I felt quite sick. I abandoned the run and walked home enjoying the view. Felt very disheartened and a total failure. Realised the warm weather here for a few more days so rather abandon my goals I was up at 5:30am and so much better.

Do what suits you. You will always find people who have no issues with the heat and others who are physically sick.

Enjoy your run when you are ready to go.
