Week 17 and I've just completed my first 5K race, finishing in 28 mins 31 secs. When I first started out on the C25K programme it took me 39 minutes to run/walk 5K. Stick to the programme and keep pushing yourself - You CAN do it!

Well done! I feel like a wimp now only managing a 3k this morning for my first race 😉

You're not a wimp! But you know, 5k races are fuuuunnn.

You're doing great - Maybe a 5K next?

Congratulations Tim! And great pacing too, very steady! That's an excellent time 😊

Thanks aliboo70 . Yes, I kept a close eye on my pace. It was interesting to watch everyone shoot off at the start, only for me to overtake them in the last 2K. Great fun though and a good atmosphere. I'll be doing another race soon!

Great! That'll be me in a couple of weeks' time! However, I am definitely going to be lucky if I even do 5k in 40 minutes. Oh well!

You will be running your own race - we all do. The only person you're trying to beat is yourself..... And maybe the person who happens to be next to you at the finish line

Running 5K in 40 minutes is far better than not running at all. You're doing great, and if you push yourself a little harder each week you will get faster. The main thing is that you're getting fresh air and exercise

True! I am nervous about my first race though... What was it like?

Honestly, you'll love it. The atmosphere is great, there are people of all shapes, sizes, age groups and abilities. You'll run faster just on adrenaline. It makes a fantastic day out, and when you're done you can treat yourself. I'm having some drinks and a takeaway!

Thank you Ullyrunner

Great photo. Well done ! I'm still not doing under 30 minutes for 5K yet. But the speed second by second increases in time. It's the health benefits and great sense of achievement that counts.

Not seen a Black and White photo in ages like it. Looking good in those cool shades !

Woohoo! Great stuff! Racing is such a blast isn't it! 😊 One of the many benefits of learning to run and getting fit is just what fun racing is.

Here's to the next one 👍
