W6R3 - onwards & upwards and Strava segments?

Strangely when I dragged myself out of bed this morning at 6:50 I didn’t feel a sense of apprehension at the 25mins run - I think I’ve learnt by now to ‘just trust the plan, man’! I couldn’t decide whether to go my slightly more regular route or back to one of the older ones but I decided that I’d save exploring new runs until week 8 and above but just to get the 25mins under my belt. Also I know this route inclines [is that a verb?] most of the way to the halfway point but blessed downhill the way back and I definitely prefer it that way.

Well it was hot again this morning! No PBs but I finally seemed to have found a Strava ‘segment’ and came third on that which cheered me up! Does anyone know how to browse for segments because I had looked previously and couldn’t find anything 🤔

This past six weeks has gone so quickly - I honestly believe this must be the best free app in the world 🌍

I discovered Segments this morning too. No idea what they are even. Documentation is the thing that lets apps down, especially complex ones like Strava. Perhaps it's 'cos we aren't teens any more?

Well done on the run. It is the best program, and the app is certainly good.

Hmm perhaps the app has refreshed and made them clearer to find? And yes we definitely aren’t teens any more! 😄

Strava segments are like Chocolate Orange Segments but less fun. I think.

If you're a paid-up Strava type, you can identify little bits of runs and mark them as "segments" and then check your performance over time. But even free members can see them (you can see them by zooming in maps and they show up as red lines). And there are Best Ever/Best This Year Leaderboards that you can look at and see how impossibly fast everyone else is.

If you accidently find a "segment" on a route you run regularly you'll get "Pets Win Prizes" awards when you beat your previous times.

They are strangely addictive tho...

Thanks sall! I couldn’t see any in my area when I first looked a couple of weeks back (because friends I follow in less rural areas seem to do segments all the time so I was curious) but the one I inadvertently hit today has been there since 2014 at least hence my surprise plus one that goes past the end of my road which the app still thinks I haven’t run!

I discovered one on my standard 4Km route out the front door. It's called 'the mile back' and for some reason it actually IS my mile back, which made me think Strava was doing something far far more clever.

Anyway I hit my PB, which I now discover means 'Personal Best', on 'the mile back' today (Dr Bannister needn't worry).

I think you can create segments if you log into strava on the website - you might need to sign up for the premium service but I think it’s free for the 1st month then you can cancel, but any segments you’ve created should always be available for anyone using the app to see.
