Water

Hi everyone I think this is the most positive, supportive forum I've ever come across.

I've just finished week 3, & in this heat I have a question about water - do most people carry water with them? If so, what is the best way to carry it? I find the bottle slips out of my sweaty hand, I have a bottle holder sleeve which attaches to my belt but that thuds against me as I run which is annoying. Does anyone have a solution to this, or should I just save drinking until I've finished??

I have just started w4 this morn and couldn't have done it in this heat without water. You can get water bottles with a handle shape in it which is easier to hold, sports direct do one in several sizes. My hands did get a bit sweaty but it's easier to grip than a standard bottle.

Well done you for even running in this heat!. Ive retreated to the treadmill in the gym for now.

Anyhow, I read a post on here that said you don't need water during the sessions, but make sure you are hydrated before and after, but in this heat, I think you will need what some liquids to help you through the journey xx

Hi. I’ve not used water till yesterday. I couldn’t have done my run without it. I have one of those hand shaped bottles. I don’t like running with one but needs must! 😓

I’ve been very luck that my running buddy has carried the water! I use a karrimor running bottle shaped like an O which has a grippy handle. Hydration before and after is very important in this weather though.

If you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... there is advice on water consumption.

In general, there is absolutely no need to carry water for any run under an hour (I never carry water for any run under 12k) so long as you are well hydrated.

In this hot weather you may feel the need, but it would be better to run out of the heat of the day (it is still cool at 6am) if you can.

I have only once carried water in a bottle in my hand. It created tensions and asymmetry which can be avoided by use of a waist belt with bottle(s) or a backpack with bladder.

I just find that my mouth gets really dry from breathing more heavily than usual! So I just take small sips. But it is a nuisance to carry & unbalances you, as you said.

I think I'll just go without as I'm only doing week 4, not running a marathon!! (Yet!)
