Having just graduated and wanting to start pushing towards 10k, I have wondered about hydration. I have not felt the need to carry water on 5k runs, especially as I only run when it is cool. Is it advisable to have a water supply when tackling longer runs?

Water supply for longer runs.
I usually drink a little water a while before running and then quite a bit after the run. Never needed it during but only run one 10k so far and there was steam coming off me at the end..
I don't bother with water for up to 10 km runs, but when going further than that like to carry a bottle in a waist bag. When I carry water I usually wait until I've run 10 km before taking my first drink.
I'd agree, no need for 10km, usually carry 2 bottles for 20km though, 1 in a waist bag and one of those runners bottles that are kind of a figure zero shaped.
I don't take water for 10k's but once I get over the 90 minute mark on longer runs and your body starts burning fat, me and Leon nip in to Spar and get one of those isotonic drinks which are lovely. We also do carry water on our long runs. I find though, I get a stitch easily if i drink too much so I take sips... I also load up pre run and drink loads after...
Just to agree with the above - ensure you are well hydrated before you run and there's no need for a drink up to 10k.
