Who brings water on their run?

I completed wk4 day 2 today and felt a bit sick and dry mouthed during my run.especially during the last 5mins. I was just wondering of anyone takes a bottle of water with them during their run? Or is it a hindrance to carry or even necessary. thanks.1st time posting here!

I take some but have only really drank it a couple of times. Think it has now become a comfort blanket as feel something is missing if I forget to take it.

You can get ones that are really easy to carry so its not a hinderance

I do drink during runs, I do most of them on the treadmill but I also take a bottle when I go outside. Some people have special running bottles but I just carry a normal one. I always get very dry when running and that's probably because I know I mouth breathe, so do conciously try not too.

I always drink when running, not a vast amount but I have dehydration issues even when I'm not running. I have a 'Hilly' bottle belt for running outside as it has handy pockets for my phone, inhaler, tissues (hay fever sufferer) and keys but just take the bottle when I'm at the gym. I have never drunk the whole bottle while running but I find it is better to be safe than sorry. I didn't take water out with me once and ended up with giddiness and a headache.

I always take my water as I get dry......open mouth gagging for breath!

I don't - I use the thirst as motivation to finish! That said I've had hardly any hot weather runs.

I never have except recently during a ten mile run.

I just don't want the faff of carrying stuff around and I can survive 10K so long as I am reasonably well hydrated. Beyond that I start to feel it a bit.

I tend to have a good drink before I go and on return! have also found out there is nothing worst than getting "caught short" on a a run! So tend to drink loads when back, mind you just starting 5 to 10k runs now so may change..

Hi, I always take a bottle of water with me, one of those runners bottles with the handy grip are good. It's essential to keep up your fluid intake so I'd advise you take one with you. All the best with the plan :)

I never take water with me, simply because I don't want to carry it!

I always drink plenty before and after I run.

I used to get thirsty on the program, especially the first few weeks but it was summer in Sydney so that's a given I guess. I got used to it and run happily with no water and no discomfort up to about 7k. I always hydrate before a run and for hours afterwards as well though.

I've taken a bottle with me twice and regretted it both times. I always get 'thirsty' at the start, but figured its more of a dry mouth and I just get used to it.

Even during the summer I rarely found I was in desperate need of a drink. If it was a hot day, I would keep a couple of coins in my back pocket so if I did get thirsty I at least had the option to stop and buy and drink, but never needed to.

I never ran more than 10k very often though, if I was going over this mark on a regular basis I would be more careful about bringing a drink with me.

Hi Ronthedon

My favourite time to run is in the early mornings when it is cool and never take anything to drink - I run up to 10 miles in 90 minutes. Sometimes if the weather is bad I'll use the gym treadmill and then I normally do drink about a litre if I do that distance.

I think one of the joys of running is the simplicity of it: my best runs have always been free of my ipod and wristwatch and certainly no water bottle. Each to their own....

I take a runners bottle with me - I started to feel i needed a drink during week 7. i don't drink much during thr run - a couple of mouthfuls here and there, but tend to down the rest during the 5 minute cool down.

I always take water with me, before I used to get really swollen hands and since drinking I don't. Also I find it a kind of torture to be out thinking about how thirsty I am and wishing I had remembered to bring a drink. It doesn't matter what anyone else does, if you need it, bring it. I carry a 2 litre bottle which gives me a little workout on my arms as well! But you can get really handy running bottles with an easy grip handle. I did week 4 run 2 this morning and am glowing!

I carry a little running bottle, it's my comfort blanket! I only have one or two gulps during a run but do like to neck it once I have stopped and am on cool down. I used to just fill it with water, but I have now concoted a weak solution of orange barley water with a little pinch of salt. Sounds disgusting but it is more refreshing that plain water and it might help replace lost salts through sweat

When I first started running I'd bring a little bottle, then I figured as long as I made sure I was hydrated before I left I didn't bother. Now as a graduate of the C25k and the B210k, when I run up to an hour I don't bring anything with me, after that yes, I bring a bottle. Currently doing half marathon training and I def need water with me for that!!

never thought to carry water as 30 mins seems long enough to run without a drink and I never feel thirsty running, just out of breath!

i am only in my first week and if i hadn't had a drink with me i would have really suffered. my mouth was so dry and i was so thirsty after my first couple of runs.

I use one of those handy running bottles which I tend to sip once or twice during a 5k run and then glug the rest down when I have finished. However, I do mouth breathe and have circulation problems so I tend to need to drink at least 2.5 litres on a normal day otherwise I get headaches. I think its up to you, we are all different and what works for one person might not work for another so I guess it is all trial and error. Good luck :-)
