Round and round the garden...

Finally have the motivation to try c to 5k... but since I’m 10st overweight (according to bmi, but I know that’s never going to happen!!!) I’m too self conscious to attempt to run in public... does anyone else not run in public and hides in their house/garden to do it? Think it would make me feel better knowing I’m not alone!

Hi Taddi you are not alone !!!! I did Lesley Sansomes Walk on YouTube in the house for months before attempting c25k. I too am overweight and aged 61am no spring chicken ( cleared it with my gp first) but finished the programme on June 1st and completed a Parkrun on Saturday despite feeling very much like a fish out of water. We all have travelled different paths to get where we are but please stick at it however you choose to do it ....this forum has lots of support and advice read through past posts and achieve. Good Luck.

Oh my gosh, please dont hide!! Let me tell you a story ... So around 9 weeks ago, my daughter and I were out on a Sunday morning walk. Suddenly, at the other side of the road appears this man. He was old. He was overweight. But what was this man doing?? He was RUNNING 😱 I was 100% in awe of this gentleman. The next Sunday, i pulled on some joggers and i started on C25k! Im now about to move on to week 8. This man will never know what an inspiration he was on getting me off of that couch! I wish i could see him again so i could tell him.

You have nothing to be scared of bud! People will glance you as you run past, but thats about it. Everyone is so involved with what they’re doing, they really dont care about what you’re doing.... unless its to be inspired. I promise you that 😊

Now stop hiding in the garden, and get out there and start. No excuses! BE SOMEONES INSPIRATION!! You can do this 👊🏻👊🏻 Good luck 😊

Hiya! You’ll be pleased to know that after one lap of my garden, I felt really stupid... so I did my warm up walk through the woods to our local recreation ground. And I did it!!! I know you get 90secs walking in between runs, but I’ve never run 8minutes in my life (not even as a child!!!) and you know what? I’m so glad I did! The only person who showed up was a dog walker, and as I was 20 minutes in, I didn’t care what she thought of me! I feel so good for biting the bullet and just doing it 😊

Fantastic! I was really self conscious when I started, but really, no one is watching you so I don’t care any more. Well done you, now you’ve done it you know there’s nothing to worry about. Great start x
