Five months ago I stepped out the door for my first C25K run. And you all know what that feels like. Yesterday I stepped out my door and ran a 10k.
When I started C25K I was 3 stone 8 overweight. Borderline obese. In the five months since I have lost over 2 stone and plan to be at my "ideal" weight by year end. No fad diets, just being mindful of what I eat, and of course, running.
Being an "old" triathlete, I have added swimming and cycling to my workouts. And recently weight training. I've become interested in yoga, as many of the yoga "poses" are used as core strengthening exercises, and they are great stretches also.
The best part? I feel great! I'd like to say I feel like I'm 40 again, but you'd know I was lying...lol. But I DO feel 100% better than I did five months ago...energised, strong(er), confident.
I'll always be indebted to NHS and the C25K programme...and especially to CaroleC who pointed me here and encouraged me in those early runs. Thanks, Carole...you are a REAL friend.

Awww shucks, stoppit, I'm blushing!! So pleased that you are feeling so much better in body and spirit! Wait till that Dr sees you - he'll think you've discovered the secret of eternal youth! Well you have - the C25k programme!
Hey, someone told me today that I'd lost "more weight" over the summer, and I haven't, but I guess continuing with the running is keeping me toned up.
WOW 10k in 5 months!! And now all that other training too... I'm worn out reading it.
I've just been on and read your latest blog too, am pleased to see that your results are now in the AMAZING category
You have done so well grammadog, and you kept me going through it when things were getting tough too for which I will be forever thankful as I really enjoy my 'me' time now. And luckily I am now getting the occasional push from Carole to keep me on my journey.
I would put you 2 ladies in the AWESOME bracket!!
I'm guessing you won't settle for 10k.... what have you got planned next?
omg...am I soooooo transparent? lol Carole and I have talked about doing the Loch Ness marathon in 2014....(I don't think I can make 2013). I'd also like another crack at the Boston Marathon for a chance to improve my time. (this would mean NOT doing the Hawaii Ironman 6 months before...lol) I'm planning to do the Canton Marathon(the half) next June. All of this is precluded by being able to train through winter and not falling (again). O...guess I didn't tell you guys about my crash and burn last week....
just a few 'small' challenges in the pipeline then!! lol
I read about your date with the pavement on your blog, you were lucky not to seriously hurt yourself by the sounds of it - hopefully you are all healed now though.. I know you are made of strong stuff
What a lovely positive post. Congratulations on running 10K and losing the weight I admit I admire anyone who manages to go through the programme carrying excess weight initially.
