Finally ran for 5k ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi all

Since graduation Iโ€™ve been consolidating my 30 minute runs on the same 4K route. This evening I tried a different route and managed to run the entire way, which turned out to be 5.1k ๐Ÿ˜ŠIt took me 44minutes (couple more hills!) but Iโ€™m so happy to be able to say that I can actually RUN 5k without stopping!! Parkrun next ๐Ÿ˜Šxxx

Amazing well done ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ another milestone reached ๐Ÿ‘

Yay! Well done Beth, that is certainly a big, big milestone, congrats. I think my first 5k of a couple of weeks ago was 47 minutes, so youโ€™re ahead of my schedule :)

Thanks HoagyM . Howโ€™s the 10k plan going?

HoagyM profile image
HoagyMGraduate in reply to BethMay

All good. Iโ€™m following ju-juโ€™s plan, should do another 6k run later this week, before starting to ramp up with a 7k next week.

Sounds great. I plan to stick to 5k for a couple of months then move on in the autumn. Hoping to enter Cardiff Bay 10k in the Spring

HoagyM profile image
HoagyMGraduate in reply to BethMay

Actually, the 10k I am down for is the Cardiff one in September (I'm originally from South Wales, and will be running with my sisters)... so we may do the Cardiff Bay one next year too :)

Fantastic! Itโ€™s a bit soon for me ( and is sold out) but Iโ€™ll come down and cheer you on if I can ๐Ÿ˜Š

That would be great... btw donโ€™t think it is sold out... are you sure you are not tempted? ;)

Well done BethMay ....consolidation is the key....a couple more just to cement it....possibly at the park run? Be careful not to get carried away at the start ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good advice!! Iโ€™m likely to imagine Iโ€™m in the Olympics ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well done! Itโ€™s a great feeling isnโ€™t it? Iโ€™m trying to consolidate with two 4 - 4.5Ks in the week and Parkrun on Saturdays. Parkrun is just brilliant - at 38 minutes, my aim is just not to be lapped!

BethMay profile image
BethMay in reply to Ebee54

Thatโ€™s my plan for the next few months Ebee54 . I generally run in the morning before work and canโ€™t face getting up 15 minutes earlier, so Iโ€™ll only have time for 4K ๐Ÿ˜‚. And Iโ€™ll probably be last in my parkrun but who cares?! As the saying goes, weโ€™ll still be lapping the person sat on the couch. Enjoy your running xx

Wow, brilliant, canโ€™t wait to do that myself, on week 8 run 2, so slow at the moment but still hanging on in there. Well done Beth

Thatโ€™s fantastic, only 5 runs to graduation. Youโ€™ve got this!!

This is great to hear. I am also only up to 4.5km so knowing 5km is achievable is great! Maybe a new route is required.

BethMay profile image
BethMay in reply to Fb75

Youโ€™ll get there! Gradual build up and donโ€™t put pressure on yourself.

Thatโ€™s brilliant; well done you!

Iโ€™m on last run of week 8 today but only running just over 3k. Panicking a bit as signed up for 5k Race for Life on 17th July so would really appreciate any advice as to how to reach that goal.

BethMay profile image
BethMay in reply to Bevacevans

Iโ€™d say, donโ€™t put pressure on yourself to run the whole of the 5k by 17th. Just take it steady and run what youโ€™re able to. Good luck with your running xx

Well done thatโ€™s brilliant, can I ask do you still do the 5min warm up and cool down walks? and was that included in the 44min for the 5k, Iโ€™m on w8 and my actual running was just over 3k today I walked longer to get 4K in total, Thanks xx

BethMay profile image
BethMay

Hi Lola. I didnโ€™t include my warm up/cool down walks in the 44 minutes, thatโ€™s all running (very slowly!!). Sounds like youโ€™re doing really well, keep going xxx
