A Bridge too Far?

She pressed her nose against the window for the fifth time in as many days, staring at the horizontal rain smashing against it, heaved a big sigh and climbed back into bed. I sympathised with the dog, but all she wanted was a run around the dog park and not the 7km I had to do to complete the third week of juju’s 10k plan, now under threat and feeling like a bridge too far.

But then the rain eased and although the temperature was still in single figures, I decided to chance it, gloves, cap, thermals and jacket and off I went, fast 5 minute walk, set the dial (not really) to 7k what kind of technology would that be then? although I do still have a Sony Walkman it might be worth something one day. I took the path alongside the railway lines again and halfway point was the dog park, shhh! don’t tell the dog, turned round and headed home, aaawww! Cuteness overload, so many little cuties heading off for a play in the now very muddy park. Would have loved to have seen what state the Bichon I saw would have been in afterwards. Two kilometres from home, I knew I was going to do it, stupid grin on my face all the way home until The Voice said run complete. Very slow at 59 minutes but I was worried that if I went too fast, I’d not finish it. 7km done! Feels good. Little Miss brown eyes got her run after lunch Win win!

Thank you, this programme is amazing, never thought I would be able to run for 30 minutes never mind nearly an hour. Chuffed!

7K was my magic number when I was moving towards 7K...very well done you... :)

And, it it is any consolation it was wet, windy and really cold here yesterday. I was at an RHS show in Derbyshire and I was perished!!!

Great run..onwards and upwards:)

Thanks Old Floss, I’ve got several more months of this weather to go, so just have to woman up or as Kiwis say “handle the jandal” (flip flops in English) My Mum when cross would say Oh go to Buxton, which sounded insulting, never understood that. I love Derbyshire, except when its wet, windy and cold. Can’t wait to start week 4 now.

Thanks Bluebirdrunner, it was a relief to do it, thought the enforced bad weather layoff would prove my undoing, but think we all need to give ourselves more credit and trust the programme. We can do it. 👏🏻

Oh she is adorable! What a gorgeous wee face. How could you refuse that?? I'd put her in a little backpack and take her along. And regret it almost immediately lol.

Congrats, 7km is amazing! Well done, I can't even imagine running 5 at this stage. I may not get there until the winter months, and even then, who knows? I wonder if the forced time unable to run worked in your favour? Either way, I'm glad the skies cleared and you achieved your goal. You're absolutely winning at this caper. Good stuff mate x

Hi Dee, yep she’s pretty cute, Jack Russell cross, the breed can be quite challenging at times, read brat, she can run for miles, would love to take her, but couldn’t cope with the pooper scooper bits. I remember someone saying on here don’t halt their run unless someone is dead or dying. I understand that. With all the builders, plumbers etc round here doing the reno she has been confined to the kitchen behind a baby gate and giving her bro’ heaps, so was overdue like me for a run and I think you’re right it worked in my favour. You’ll absolutely get to 5km, I have no doubt. Cos we’re not playing you tonight I’m gonna say “Go the All Blacks”
