Time or distance?

Hi

First post, apologies if this topic has already been covered, I didn't search. I'm doing ok, wk7R1 this morning, comfortable now with the non walking bit, but I am slow! (I am still astounded 7 weeks ago I was praying for the end of the 1 minute runs!!)

I measured the distance today of just the 25 mins run (excluding the warm up and down walks, actually ran for 27mins as I felt good). Surprisingly I only covered 2.62 K! so unless I speed up some, by the last week running 30 mins I won't even make 3k!! I will need to run for 52mins ooooer... that will take some doing. So from those who have done it, do you naturally speed up over the last runs or is there some encouragement to speed up or what?

I think having seen other comments the idea is to be able to run consistently for 30 minutes without stoping. The 5k is a bonus. Having seen some of the other graduates talking I think some people keep repeating week nine to slowly build up there speed and stamina to get to the 5k.

Yes after graduation it’s good to do consolidation runs of 30 mins until you feel comfortable with running that distance. Normally min 2 weeks. 😊

Hi Kim. It’s all about the continuous running not the distance or speed. I didn’t do 5k in 30 mins when I graduated. Generally speaking your speed does improve with the continuous long runs but don’t put pressure on yourself to do that.

As you say look how far you’ve come! Happy running. 😊

About 90% of graduates do not complete 5k in 30 minutes at graduation.

You will get faster in time, but many people never achieve that target and does it matter......not according to this article womensrunning.competitor.co...

Wow, just read that article, really amazing that the hard going runners have the life expectancy of the couch potatoes so to speak and we here on C25K, who are advised to go slow and steady have the longest life expectancy.

You're doing great. Well done for getting to Wk7.

Don't worry about distance, don't worry about speed, you're doing just fine.

I didn't run 5k in the nine weeks, not many do. So plod on and in time you'll get there.

Keep up the good work ... happy running!

Interesting article Iannoda. I’m gonna live foreverrrrrrr 🐌👏👏😂

Kimyeo, don’t worry about distance, there’s no way I’m going to reach 5k in 30 minutes, but I AM going to run non stop for 30 minutes (eventually) and how fantastic is that! Just keep going at your own pace 👍

Time, time and time. Don't fret about distance yet. You're already a winner. Don't put any more pressure on yourself xx

The aim of the C25K program is to run for 30 minutes three times in one week.

C2R430m3xi1w is not as catchy as C25K, but more accurate.

Hi

Thanks to all for the positive feedback. The gist is just keep doing it and not worry about distance! Maybe C23k would work! I have set myself a goal to run 5k sometime but not week 9. I am now (at last) confident I will 'run' for 30 mins, I feel I could do it now but I'll stick with the program and build up steady. Can't say I will ever enjoy running but the feeling after is quite addictive. Listening to good music gets me through, fun putting together running playlists and listening to the stuff I liked when I was young and fit! (70's)
