Distractions

I realise that most modern people use music from their phones as the main distraction while running. Something to engage the mind and stop it obsessing over the lack of breath, the pain in the side, etc.,etc.. But I can't stand modern music... So what else can I use?

Just as an aside, what I have been doing is praying, going through a big list of people who have asked me to pray for them. Does anyone else do that?

I often use podcasts, lots available from the BBC to suit all tastes.

Alternatively I like to listen to the natural environment and concentrate on the wild life.

Hello, to you the oldfellow, that's a new one to me, praying, I suppose you could recite the Lords Prayer while you run a 5k, I understand why you don't like modern music, but you could have your own music, whether Its Mozart of say oldy pop music from the 60's, personally I love to have any type of music through my headphones when I go long walks but NOT when I am cycling, not sure about running, I think I could have problems with them bobbing out of my ear when running, so when I have been doing my C25K trainning I have not had any music with me. I think probably you are more religious than most people here on Healthunlocked, I hope and wish you good health and happy running for your C25K training.

I don't use anything, but maybe you could play classical music, or radio 4?

I consider myself young at 38 ......I did my run this morning to The Nutcracker. Whatever you fancy is great I think. I have a friend who runs to audiobooks.

I prefer nature’s soundtrack, at least for the moment. The winter will no doubt be another matter, when I’ll have to run in town under streetlights. I do know people who pray when running although I haven’t. I have prayed whilst swimming as I’ve found that more meditative so far. Maybe that’ll change as running gets easier.
