I’ve been so good, making sure me and my 2 girls did every run as advised, followed all of Laura’s hints and tips and resting fully between each run. Loved every minute of it and got to week 9 without an issue and without strangling either of my two mini runners. Did first run, made up with myself for getting through the 30mins had abit of shin pain but eased off by that night. Second run had pain but decided to run through it and felt fine until I’d finished. Now unbearable pain down my right shin, even struggling to walk at times and pain is so bad at the end of a long day. Read up on it and think it’s probably shin splints but am gutted as haven’t run now since thurs last week and am desperate to get back to it. Any hints and tips as don’t want to wait weeks after getting so far, I can literally touch the end and I want that pretend certificate.
Thanks all

You have to rest it until it doesn’t hurt. Sorry. It may only take a few days more. Don’t ruin all of your progress so far by going out early and risk putting yourself out of action for weeks.
No option other than rest until they're not sore. Foam roll if you can bear it, otherwise bags of frozen peas and ibuprofen to take the swelling down.
Sore shins (i.e. the less malign, though still hurty version of shin splints) usually indicate problems with your footwear (which I guess you don't have at this stage), or going too fast and overstriding. You may just have been pushing too hard for that podium.
Get better, go slower and take slightly smaller steps.
You'll be fine. You could always check with a local sports physio too....
Thanks guys for the advice, guessing I’ve got no choice but to sit and wait. I do think I need new trainers though so will be making a purchase before I start again so hopefully this will also help. Praying it calms quickly xx
I was getting shin splints really bad till I had my gait analysed and got some shoes that suit my feet. Not had a problem with them since. From the research I did it seems the most common causes are unsuitable footwear or running with your foot landing too far out in front of your body, since you’ve got this far without them I would say it’s unlikely you’ve suddenly changed your running style, so maybe it’s more likely to be the trainers finally taking their toll now you’re doing longer distances.
You can try icing them, voltarol, ibruprofen, compression socks after running, elevation, point and flex exercises. But I found none of it really worked. It was just better not to get them in the first place.
First port of call for any niggles should always be Shoes. If they're not right for your gait then that's the place to start. Usually crops up earlier in the programme tho, not when you've running for 30 mins at a time.
Hope the soreness goes away. Be careful tho. Sore shins can escalate actual shin splints (very very painful) or even stress fractures if not looked after.
Running through discomfort is fine. Running through pain is a no no.
As you have discovered, it is all too easy to exacerbate a strain to the point that it makes running impossible. So wait for this to clear up. If you have Googled shin splints, you no doubt have found suggested remedies. Rest is at the top of your list.
All the other responses give good advice. I too would question your footwear, since you got this far before succumbing.
