Bugger. W8R1 done and dusted, but my right knee is really not happy. Having looked this type of injury up seems I have Runners Knee which will inevitably push back the elusive W9R3. Treatment wise I'm opting for Ibuprofen gel and cold ice packs which seem to be making it a little more comfortable but, my god, this is frustrating.
I have to say, it's really hard not to beat myself up over this. I'd already promised myself once I've graduated I will get my gait measured properly (possibly new running shoes!), but I've come to almost rely on my morning runs to give my day that positive boost- not to mention my self esteem, and this is going to be a really tough wait while I recover.
Is there any way to speed up the recovery? I certainly won't be able to run whilst this ongoing, and my worry is that I'll run again too soon and properly screw it up.
At least the nips are better now...

If you've got an injury that prevents you from running, it might be worth getting it checked out - in the interim the best thing for recovery is lots of RICE.
I know how frustrating it is as I was at W8R1 when I ended up on the injury couch for a couple of months. Still not quite back where I was but getting there and so will you. I agree with Actons advice. Knee problems are so common and a good physio will be able to pinpoint the problem and recommend best way forward and advise on how to avoid problems in future. Good luck and hope you are back running soon.
definitely go see a physio I attributed my knee injury to "runners knee" or anterior Knee pain as the doc put it ... there can be many causes ... a physio will be able to pinpoint the problem fingers crossed get you back running as soon as possible
I saw a clip on Runningbug where someone described the movement in the knee cap that causes runners knee and he said about a strap u can buy that supports the knee cap to prevent the movement and continuing injuries, might be worth a look.
Hi there Julie. I've just posted a request to find you as I'd read this then looked on the running bug but couldn't find it. I then tried to find this post again and failed . Just as a last attempt I found it and you! Where on the running bug is this clip? I can't find it.
I'll now have to reply on my post to say I've found you!!!
I'm sorry to hear about this. I'm afraid I can't offer any advice but it seems sensible to see a doc or physio. But don't beat yourself up, it's not your fault. I hope you're feeling better soon. Sending you positive vibes for a quick recovery
I know this is an old post but I just wandered how long it took for your knee to recover?
I am having the same problem but I am only on W3D1. I did no running for a couple of weeks and I've been for a run tonight and my knee is still sore. It is so frustrating.
Thanks for your message and sorry to hear you have a similar embuggerment.
To be honest I have been struggling with the same knee on and off since I posted that.
At the time of posting I took 2 weeks out and carried on with the ice packs and ibuprofen gel. I then went back from wk8 and picked up wk5 again and managed to complete the C25K programme.
I continued doing 5k 3 times per week but my knee still wasn't great. I think I overdid it going for 10k training and had to stop for 2 months!
I saw my gp who gave me a diagnosis of muscle fatigue and gave me some exercises to do to strengthen the muscles in the joint.
I then took up running again in January, although it is still causing me a lot of pain and I'm struggling to complete 5k as a result.
I'll go back to my gp I expect, but I guess my advice would be if you are getting pain in your knee, stop and get it checked out.
I hope you make a speedy recovery anyway and good luck on completing C25K. It's a great achievement to have even started the programme so well done for that! It's just so frustrating when you find something you like doing but then can't because of injury! Grrrrrr!
