Apologies in advance for possible duplicate/triplicate post! Have tried to post this from the app twice already. 🤗
After a week and a bit on the injury bench, recovering from a virus, I wasn’t sure how today was going to go. Sarah reassured me as I set off that she was still here - ironic, given what happened later. My only goal for today was to finish the run, so I started very slowly, but my legs soon remembered what they were supposed to be doing.
My head said take it easy, but my feet had other ideas, and pointed me towards the only route I had decided was definitely off the table - up the brutal hill to the country park. I slogged up the hills, being overtaken by snails, but was cheered to find that all the Proper Runners 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ coming down the hill gave me a smile, nod, or a wave. Maybe I am becoming a Proper Runner myself! 🏃♀️
I took a side path halfway up the hill (I’m not *that* much of a masochist) just as Sarah rang the bell for halfway and suggested I speed up. With a cheerful “Get stuffed, Sarah!”, I headed down on to the shady woodland paths, past some glorious rhododendrons. I ran to the meadow at the end of the path, then turned round to start back again. Checked the app: only 6 mins to go. Maybe I will speed up a bit after all.
Made it back to the Brutal Hill, and ran down - so much easier this way round. It occurred to me that this had been a *very* long 6 mins. Checked the app - it had crashed! Disaster! 😱😱😱 Silver lining: I had been running for nearly 45 mins and had run 5K!
So, the app crashed (ran it in the background as I want my gold circle - enjoyed Sarah telling me how well I was doing as I drank my coffee!), but I am back with a bang, and have achieved 5K for the first time since my 20s - wallop!
