Week 3 run 1

Hi all. I have just completed week 3 run 1 and I have to say I found the 3 minutes hard. I was talking (or should I say trying to 😂) to another runner who said my pace is too fast and this is why I'm getting worn out. Question is I'm not sure how to slow down? I was always the sprinter at school but never been able to hold distance. I do cardio boxing and kickboxing during the week and my stamina for this is fine even though im doing the intense versions. Can anyone give advise?

Pace is something I struggle with to but I mentally tell myself to slow down. I sing and if I sing my pace is right because I’m not getting out of breath. You get strange looks but I’m singing along to the music 😂

That's something I do anyway😂 I'm the crazy runner who's giving herself a pep talk or shouting at herself! Good thing I go out at 6am. Not many people to out at that time!

That’s me all over. I talk to myself when I’m running and I sing. I’m the crazy guy 😂. But, what ever gets you through. eye of the tiger

Slow and Steady seems to be the best advice but whatever you do, keep it up and you’ll get there 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I won't give up. It's not in my nature to give up but it's annoying!! I seem to be programmed to run fast and don't know how to break that

Hi Sharna,

I play Touch, so have been used to sprint and interval based work. I was always a sprinter, never a runner. Always one of the last at distances at school.

What worked for me was trying to count steps with breaths. I started runs with four steps breathing in and four breathing out. I could do a minute at that rate, then had to adjust to threes. By the end, I was going with two steps for each breath in and out, which is more or less the comfortable rate for my pace.

I remember week 3, only just managing it and feeling burnt out. Now I'm on week 7 and doing 25 minutes at a time. The programme does work.

You will find somewhere along the line that during the slightly longer runs, you may find yourself not watching the clock, just getting on with the run. The 3 minute runs are when that started for me.

Good luck.

Sounds just like me. Always last at distance running but representing my county for sprints! I have have been trying to count breaths but have such a short attention span, something will catch my eye then I'm off sprinting again 🙈 going to have to keep checking myself I think!
