Trying to get myself in the zone for the dreaded 20 minute run tomorrow...
I know everyone says to trust the program and to take it slow and steady (if I get any slower I’ll be walking...backwards) but I can’t help but feel anxious about it, especially considering that first 8 minute run yesterday was far from comfortable.
Any good vibes and words of wisdom welcome please!

We all feel the same at this stage ..But slow and steady really does work I'm like you ..Feel as though I'm not moving but as long as your jogging motion and moving forward you will do this ...Just believe 😊😊👍👍
Hi, did this run this morning and like you was doubting myself to the point I almost repeated run 2 instead! It went really well and I even managed to run on for an extra minute as I was on a downward slope!! Now feel so very chuffed with myself so go for it!!! Best of luck!! An added bonus is week 6 seems a breeze now?? 😁😂😁
Thank you, I did have a look ahead to week 6 and thought ‘really?!’ but I’m not going to get cocky 😂 I’m sure I’ll make it through tomorrow and then we’ll see how it goes!
You’ll be fine. I often find the first part of a run the hardest until I settle into a rhythm and I actually enjoyed W5R3. Just a word of warning though, week 6 looks good on paper but for some of us seems to have been the toughest. Again, take each run at a time, believe in yourself and you’ll do it.
Thank you, I’m much the same, I usually find the first few minutes at least to be something of a struggle...I’m just hoping it settles fairly quickly tomorrow so I can actually enjoy what I’m achieving!
I’ve only looked as far ahead as run 1 of week 6 and I’m not looking any further ahead because I don’t want to get too ahead of myself!
That's very sensible. Looking too far ahead gives those gremlins that live in our head something to torment us with. Just take it one run at a time. And remember that the Inner Snail rocks!!
Embrace your Inner Snail!! Take it a lot slower than your normal runs. It's okay if your running is slower than your walking (they're biomechanically very different things). If you've got enough in the tank for the last 5 minutes you can always push yourself a bit more then.
Break it into little chunks. Pick out a "landmark" about 200yds ahead of you and jog slowly to that and then another. That will keep you focused.
It feels like a really long time, but you could walk for 20 minutes right? So if you run really slowly you can smash this. If you can, get out before it gets too warm. Lots of us struggled a bit with the heat and humidity today.
Thank you so much, all this advice is making me feel more confident about tomorrow.
I’m planning on going out around 8am, maybe earlier, I like to get it over and done with first thing, and with this gorgeous weather Scotland has been experiencing it’s nice to get out before it gets ridiculously hot!
Its weird I found the first 8 minute run hard as well, in-fact the whole Wk5 R2 was harder than the 20 which I did this morning, good luck I’m sure you will be great x
What they all said - take it slower than you think can be possible, and pretend you are doing a super fast walk where you just happen to have both feet off the ground at once. As Sallenson said, if you can walk for 20 minutes then you can jog slowly for 20 minutes - if your mind tires to tell you otherwise then it is lying to you
