Too old?

I am just 70 have always been active walking everywhere but have not run/jogged for at least 40 years.

My pulse is about 50 and blood pressure good but when I try even a short jog my pulse shoots up to 150 my max?

So how safe is this program for the older participants as I have no wish to join the list of jogging casualties.

I am no expert on heart rates but I have some medical issues. I had a chat with my GP before I started, she was very encouraging and gave me some warning signs I personally had to look out for. Maybe a trip to your GP would put your mind at rest before starting out.

Not a medic or a sports physio.

Sorry for short responses

No, not too old.83 year old lady graduated last year.

C25k is an NHS tried and tested programme and is safe.

Excellent that you are walking fit.

Past running experience not really relevant, better to come as a novice, the programme will rebuild your running legs and lungs again.

Your heart rate for age according to the formula is (220-70) x 85%=127.5🤔

Mine is 123 and I have never ever monitored it.

The pace is no more than a brisk walk and slower if need be.

Eventually perhaps, running is kinder on your body than brisk walking as demonstrated on the BBC.

I am sure there are more casualties on the couch through inactivity than from this C25k programme🤔

I hope you have a good outcome and reassurance from your GP and we hope to see you join us on this forum and programme.

Someone posted just a few days ago and was reassured.

Atb. and hope you get reassured.

I'm 3 years younger than you and have completed C25K with no health problems. I've been lucky and not picked up any injuries or illnesses on the way so age isn't necessarily a risk. I don't know anything about heart rates but I presume if you feel OK you probably are OK. Good luck - keep the flag flying for us oldies!
