well today was the day I turned 60 🎉and of course it started with James Dunnes 7 day challenge followed by a short run, I was running with a big grin on my face as I am so happy to have reached 60 many have fallen before so no feeling sad just strong!!
I have documented my struggles recently with my mental health after a turbulent time moving house and putting my Dad into care, who has Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia his abuse and violence had just got too much.
I stopped running and went down a dark hole but luckily with love and family support I feel so much more my old self and am back running 3 times a week not always 5k as I have to charter my new surroundings and it’s not like my old suburbia but change can be good.
This forum is so supportive I would like to thank you all and share a bit of cake 🎂

🍏 Congratulations 🥳 and delighted to share a piece of cake with you! Thank you for thinking of us! Well done for getting back on track after so much emotional pain. Your family sound very caring & supportive and must be delighted that you are running again!
The wonderful thing about running is that we are in charge! Any run even a 10 min run is a celebration that we put our trainers on and started a run! Adapting your runs to your new surroundings will be exciting as you discover new and different routes. We wait to hear some stories!
Happy birthday for yesterday! Pleased to hear that things are on the up. Your 60th , new places to explore in your runs and spring on its way. Sounds like a fresh start !Happy 🏃♀️
I think one of the scary things about a parent with dementia is those thoughts about your own future (that are there somewhere even if consciously you are just dealing with the practicalities and the here and now) and getting back to running (any running) is one of the best things you can do to make your own luck.
and well done to you , it’s not easy this elderly parent thing. We have two nonagenarians, both, in different ways, needy and guilt inducing. It’s too easy to lose oneself in parental care and worry , exhausting. Empathy and best wishes x
