Honest advice please! I used to run, very slowly, in my 50's. Before this I never ran in my life. I gave up after falling in the woods and falling off of a horse.

Have always regretted quitting as even though I was slow, it really helped to make me feel good.

I'm nervous to start again and wonder if, at 63 , I'm too old. I do quite a lot of other exercise. Any advice please?

Hi there. I’m 63 in a few weeks and graduated a couple of weeks ago. I hadn’t run properly since school but was reasonably fit, doing yoga and walking a lot. I’m really glad I decided to start running and all I would say is that if you follow all the advice on here and use the forum for support you should be fine.

Welcome to the forum.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

In the guide you will find mention of an 83 year old graduate............ Age is the number of times you have been around the sun and signifies very little in its own right........said this 64 year old.

Enjoy your journey.

I started during lockdown towards the end of May , aged 63, never run in my life.

Graduated 5th August , and ran my first 10k yesterday 😬

Too old at 63, never, you are one of the younger people to start C25K, I think many people who have started. C25K do it after they retire, the other age group that start C25K are in their 40's, certainly never too old to start running. 😊 🏃🏾 Good luck for your running journey with C25K 😊.

Welcome! You’ll be fine, especially if you do a lot of other exercise. I’m 66 and graduated in July. I have never run before. I’m proud to say I’m still on a high from running my first 10K yesterday 😊 at the same time as my forum ‘buddy’ Instructor57 , albeit in different counties! You’ll be in good company here, there are many runners in their 60s.

Don’t make the mistake that most of us do in trying to run too fast! It’s meant to be a slow jog. Plenty of time later to speed up if you want to. I’m pretty sure I was one of the slowest on here! I was convinced I could actually walk faster.

The programme is magic! It increases your stamina and endurance week by week. Post about your runs on here and ‘follow’ people that inspire you, or who are on a similar level to you. That way, as you work towards graduation you can share your thoughts about each week and graduate at a similar time. You’ll find a lot of support on here.

So... get out there and run! What are you waiting for? 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️👍

Thank you so much, really helpful and great idea. Don't know what I'm waiting for! I will never be fast but that's ok 😊

I’ve just done it age 61 having not run (sprinted) since school. You can do it if you want to - just get started & keep going - not too fast.

Hi, I’m 71 and started C25K when the gyms closed for lockdown. Still going running (or rather plodding) even though I’ve returned to the gym. Average 3.5k in 30 minutes- which is 3.5k more than I’d ever done before.

Go for it!

Definitely not too old! I started just before my 60th birthday, having never run before, although I did other exercise. You have a head start because you know what running is like, having run in your 50s! I had no idea at all, but have just run my first 10k! So you can definitely do this.

Thank you all so much for encouragement, I have just done my first run!! Podcast didn't work so need to download again I think. Just did 1 minute walk and 2 minutes run for about half an hour. Really hard but feel amazing 😀

We started last year at 63 and today ran 6.44 k or 4 miles, it was slow and we were tired after but very satisfying
