W6R1 phew what a scorcher!

Well I went out at 8.30am thinking I’d be cool enough...wrong!

I managed the run but strangely found the last 5 minute run harder than the 20 minute run at the end of week 5!

Please tell me it will get easier!!! Does anyone else still struggle with breathing?? I really don’t like breathing through my nose...does it really matter if I breathe through my mouth??

Me too!😂

I breathe through my mouth. There is a really good post about breathing which Iannodatruffe sent me - if you look him up I'm sure he will send it to you. I find if I focus on my breathing too much I get more out of breath. Try to just not think about it & breathe how you would normally. Well done for getting so far - I'm just at the start of W5

W6 is tricky! It does get easier, kind of. The runs get longer but you cope better. Honestly.

I’ve just done W7R1 - 25 mins on the back of the same for W6R3.

My breathing is all through my mouth until the final third when my breathing wierdly relaxes and I can do nose in, mouth out. Don’t worry too much about it as long as you aren’t getting a stitch.

Take run 2 at a nice, steady pace. Enjoy it!

For as long as you breathe, your job is accomplished.

With warmer weather make sure you hydrate well and properly. Balance your daily water intake (every day) so you drink at least around 3 litres (our resident fitness guru, Rignold, would recommend 4). That way your muscles will respond better, you will also be likely to avoid fatigue and cramps.

Run earlier in the day, wear comfy gear and avoid direct sunlight if you can. Then again, I absolutely LOVE running in warm (and very hot) weather. I did two weeks where temperature didn't drop below 30C once. BLISS! ;)

Gorgeous weather! Very early morning/late evening is best times to run during hot weather.. just breathe, mainly through the mouth when running, as that takes in a bigger volume of air/oxygen which is needed...I do deep breathe through the nose sometimes when running, it goes deeper into the lungs that way, but don't worry about it, you'll find your way with breathing as you go on, it does get easier..

It gets easier! Week 6 is a bitch but run 3 onwards is great. And no I can’t breathe through my nose either. It is too hot to run at anytime at the mo.

Ouch! I feel your pain 😩 I remember this run vividly, it crushed me because W5R3 had been easier - well done for getting through it, embrace the rest of the programme now 🤗

Well done! I’m starting w6 next week. There seem to be more words of warning about w6 than than the 20 min run in W5 which seems odd, until you do it I guess! I’ve given up trying to breath properly. I look at any kind of breathing by the end of a session as a positive! Keep it up! Sounds like you’re doing great!

Just breathe.. that is all you need to do... slow down take it steady and breathe:)

Check out the FAQ post on how to run C"5K... IannodaTruffe has complied some great tried and tested advice.... including this bit on breathing..

Breathing for many is problematic in the first few weeks. There is one answer…...slow down. There is advice on the podcasts and app about breathing and while this advice is good, many people, myself included, found that trying to count breaths and steps, was just one multitasking demand too many. If you can do the techniques suggested, then all good and well, but if not, worry not, just breathe as you always have done. You can work on breathing later on. Breathing solely through your nose is virtually an impossibility, while running, which this link gives some detail on, as well as lots of other interesting info. theguardian.com/lifeandstyl...

Just breathe when your body prompts you to. Downside is, you may eat some midges, I certainly have, but it didn't kill me.:) :)
