W6R1 Should I repeat it?

Ok here is the thing: This morning I started my run like any other day, I did the first 5 minute run and when I was 6 minutes into the 8 minute one when I run into an old friend I hadn't seen in years, so I had to stop to say hi of course. I stopped the podcast and not so sure about what to do after the interruption, I run for another 8 minutes and called it a day. In the end I did 5-6-8 instead of the 5-8-5 I was supposed to. And now my question is: should I repeat this run or should I move onto run 2?

I'd say it maybe depends on how long you were stopped chatting. Two minutes, and I'd say move on. Twenty mins, I'd say repeat it. Sorry, that's not very helpful. If in doubt, I'd say repeat the run. Let's face it, you're planning on carrying on running once you get to the end of week 9, so what's the problem with that being a couple of days later than you originally thought? ;)

I definitely stopped for more than 5 min, but I think no more than 10. It is not about finishing a couple of days earlier, it is more about messing up my weeks, I usually run Mon, Wed and Fri, so if I repeat this run tomorrow I'll be leaving 2 days between run 2 and 3 of the week. I kind of like the idea of having the weekend to rest between one week and next one. Maybe I can carry on until Friday and repeat the whole W6 next week?

Move on. Go steady and you should be able to manage it 🙂

I agree. If you managed to finish your interrupted run in good shape then you'll be fine to tick Run 1 off and carry on with 2 and 3. If you struggle with them then perhaps squeeze in a run 4 and delay Week 7 a day or so.

Id say if you did the 8 mins long run ok then its time to move on. But this is your journey so its for you to decide . Good luck runner 👍🏼😀🏃🏻‍♀️

I would be very tempted to move on to run 2. If you really struggle (which I very much doubt) then think about doing a repeat of the week next week.

I would go for move on...just take it steady and slowly , and next time just shout to your pal.. "...on a run, meet you on the way back"... :)

Thank you, guys! I think I'll move on and see how it goes on Wednesday. I know I shouldn't have stopped, but it just felt rude not to. I'll keep you posted!

I'd move on. You ran for one minute more than you would have done, and in some ways getting started after a longer break is a bigger challenge than if you'd only been stopped for a minute. Let us know though as we'll all be wondering!

All the good people who have replied so far gave me great support and advice - especially when I was in two minds to whether to repeat a run. MOVE ON they said - and they were right, it's too easy to procrastinate and believe me, i should know. You were so near to what you should have done, I don't think that longer break is going to do any harm... Enjoy! :-)
