Vitamin D deficiency and run

Dear Friends

My D 3 readings are very low only 7 . I m on tablets but doctor has suggested injections. (A complete vegan )

I have read if vit d levels are low ur more prone to fracture or bone injuries .

Over and above I had hardly walk or run in last 15 years so it’s tough on me (need to repeat w1r1)

I was thinking should I wait and do normal walks for a month or should I try running after 10 days of walk plan . Kindly suggest

Thanks and regards

Vitamin D is connected to your calcium and bones so following the programme will give you more sunlight, help your bone density and improve your calcium uptake. I don’t want to lecture but as a vegan you really need to read up on all this stuff. You need to replace all the nutrients you miss out on by not eating meat, fish and dairy. You can get all you need as a vegan but you have to work a lot harder at it. Which is why I can’t go the whole hog, too lazy! You need to talk to your doctor and work out what will work best for you, regarding the injections but it is becoming more of an issue in UK and US. Apparently you need 15 minutes of full sun per day on your arms and face in order to get enough vitamin D. How many days a year do we get that?

As long as you don’t have any current problems with your bones there is no reason not to keep going with the programme, just take your time and go as slowly as you need, decent shoes are a must though. Good luck ☀️

Well done for thinking about the c25k program and for starting it.

I’m no expert, but I would suggest that you ask your GP if you are concerned about starting an exercise program, and ask the question about being vitamin D deficient and the effect that might have. Your doctor will know your medical history unlike dr google who somehow always seems to diagnose the worst possible scenario!! Your GP will give you peace of mind.

Good luck - hopefully we will hear of your successes soon x
