I have the dreaded Plantar fasciitis. I'm trying to build up my stamina to do a sunrise 5k in my local city in July. but Plantar fasciitis has struck!!

I could hardly walk yesterday, I'm doing the usual recommended treatments and no running. Any alternative treatments have any of you found that help. I'm so upset I may not be able to run

I suffer from it too and have worn Vionic shoes for quite a while and they really help. They are designed to alter the way your foot is positioned as you walk. They’re not cheap, but I wear them every day and have no pain at all so they really are worth it. I’ve just treated myself to a pair of sandals from the same range for summer.

The problem for me is finding running shoes to match. I have trainers designed for people with flat feet and arch trouble (generic ones rather than specifically for plantar fasciitis) and they have made a significant difference but still not solved it completely.

I’d recommend getting shoes that will fix it day to day and then sort out the issue with running, just from personal experience.

Thankyou. I'll take a look at the shoes as I have trainers fitted to give me arch support. problem is I've been away fro 2 weeks & I've been wearing sandals!! So ill take a look at Vionic

My problems always come when I start wearing really flat shoes like sandals. I hope you sort it out and you can get back to running!

I’m a nurse and had terrible pain with plantar fasciitis. I read about a brand of shoes called Alegria which were good for relieving it and bought them for work. They’re fantastic and have been the one thing that has made a difference. If I have annual leave so don’t wear them for a bit I can feel it starting to worsen. I have Paloma ones. They are expensive but I’ve found pairs on e Bay for a lot less than the RRP (which I think is around £120) so worth a look there.

Hi there, What treatments are you following? There are a lot of physio exercises for PF. Here's an interesting blog listing all the therapies and you'll find a video with the common stretches: howtocureplantarfasciitis.org/

Massages are great as well as first relief. I've got special insoles designed by a podiastrist because I've got very flat feet and they help a lot to keep posture right. But you also may find running shoes adapted for PF. When I run, I also use a special PF sock under my socks (you'll find them on Amazon): they help by compressing the right area, so that the arch of your foot is less tense/strained. And after a long run (I'm on the 10k programme), if I feel it is tense, I use a foam roller (special ones with spikes that stimulate blood circulation: it makes wonders, also available on the Internet). Take the time to heal the inflammation first. Good luck!

Running shoes with a heel to toe drop of 12mm are recommended for pf sufferers.

Steer clear of flat shoes at all times and beware slippers and flip flops.

I get twinges in the feet, ball of the foot and plantar, I keep stretching the toes and walk around the house on my toes for 100 steps, and gently stretch the achilles with heel drops on the stairs and not forgetting the calves.. seems to keep those niggles at bay..😊

This worked a treat for me!

runnersworld.com/video/toes...

Followed by rolling a hard massage ball under the arch of my feet, pressing hard, for a few moments twice a day.

Hope it eases off soon.

I suffered from this so badly for 3 years. Had steroid injections in my heels which helps but doesn’t cure. I eventually bought some stretchers memory foam insole trainers and added a pair of arch support insoles from amazon. Took about 4 months but I’ve been fine for about 2 years now. Put the amazon insoles in every footwear I have, including slippers!
