Aged 63, I stopped smoking 3 years ago this coming September and in truth don't feel any real difference in how I was before, except I have gained an extra couple of stone which I want to start tackling. Problem is I now suffer from plantar fasciitis and wondered if anyone has any advice regarding running with this condition - is it even possible? Grateful for any advice and thank you for taking the time to read this. Regards. Paul

Plantar Fasciitis
🍏 Hi Paul welcome to our forum. Well done on managing to give up smoking & we are delighted to hear you are thinking about running. I had plantars fasciitis & was referred by my GP to an orthopaedic podiatrist as I was desperate to keep running. I did have to take some time out but the advice, equipment & exercises I was given enabled me to run pain free very quickly & stay that way.
Let us know how you get on & we look forward to encouraging you on your run journey.
Hello, welcome and well done you!
What stage of the C25K programme are you on currently?
Annieapple has given you some tips and there are exercises and useful preventive methods to be found...
E.g.

Your extra luggage may be contributing... so, if you are able... then try to land as lightly as you are able. I call it, kissing the ground with your feet.
This may help..?

But do, please if this persists or there is any pain, get the help and advice of an expert Keep us posted please
Well done on the smoking cessation! That is an awesome accomplishment.
I don't have experience with running with plantar fasciitis but would recommend seeing your healthcare professional for advice. I know it can be quite painful.
All the best and do keep us posted...
Hi, if you search Plantar in the box at the top, you can read previous posts of this nature.
I found the cortisone injection was the only thing that eventually worked for me after exhausting all other methods.
I also continue to use insoles from a podiatrist to pad my heel/Instep. Good luck ☺️
Hi Paul,
Well done on the no smoking- great achievement in itself 👏
I had Plantar around week 5, I saw a podiatrist who gave me insoles, exercises and had to wear trainers all the time- no slippers even. I stopped running for a month because the pain was awful and he did tell me running on it would prolong the pain.
I did as I was told and also had a gait analysis done and purchased some Brookes trainers and have not been bothered by it since.
I hope that gives you hope that it will pass.
Exercises worked well for me. Also feet in iced water every evening for 20 minutes. I still get twinges years later but back to the exercise and iced water and it is under control.
