Didn't get to run this morning as I was up til 2.30 am working and again from 7-11.30am as I had a deadline. Thought I would feel good after finishing my piece of work and ready for a run, but I've nosedived.

I'm really anxious today, self esteem at rock bottom. I have been meaning to go out after lunch for w2r2 but I can't bring myself to. Feel like crying. Hate that my MH can just sabotage me like this for no apparent reason. I want to crawl under a rock :(

Be gentle with yourself, know it will eventually pass and you can run another time. I hope your mood lifts soon.

Thanks Jay. I'm sitting here beating myself up cause I really want to stick to this and here I am in week 2 stuttering. Thanks for your kind words. How is your running going?

It’s going fine but I’m not fighting any demons at the moment. Just give yourself time to make it work. There is no rule says you have to take it all in one go. Worst case: do last week again next week. There is no race to the end. Wishing you peace and happiness

Thank you :)

Give yourself a break. Cut yourself some slack. You were up half the night, you met your deadline and you are in the process of completing the C25K. Running is for fun not to add another burden in an already stressful life.

Wipe the slate, not doing this run today is not the end of the world. It will be waiting for you tomorrow or the next day. Come out from under the rock. What about a nice little walk out, some supper, a hot bath and an early night? Don't allow your thoughts to pull you down. I hope you feel better soon :)

Thanks for your kind words 🌸. Giving myself a break is clearly a skill I need to learn! An early night sounds like a plan for sure. I guess the run isn't going anywhere. I don't think I would enjoy it anyway today.

Oh bless you. I feel your pain. I suffer from depression and yes you are right it can hijack your life at times. Don't beat yourself up - like Jay says - you need to be gentle with yourself. When I get a bout of depression & the negative thoughts come in "you're useless, worthless, etc" I always try to say to myself- Stop - think about what you would say to a friend who is feeling like this & then say it to yourself. It helps me (not always). Give yourself a break. You're doing great.

Sorry to hear you get this too. Yes, the negative thoughts are rubbish. Horrible sabotaging things. That's a good tip. Maybe I'll imagine Michael Johnson giving me a pep talk (he's my coach on the app)!

What I hate is that sometimes it just comes out of nowhere and knocks you sideways. Thanks for replying, helps to know I'm not on my own. 🌸

You are definitely not alone! Yes it does come out of nowhere & it's awful. I also have acupuncture for it which has helped me - it's not for everyone though. Good luck with your running. It really does help with mental health.

Everything in your life can affect your running, so either plan your runs by giving them higher priority or lower your expectations of a good run when either tired, poorly hydrated or fed, in a bad state of mind etc. etc

Physical exertion requires the right set of circumstances to be enjoyable and not a slog. Overall running will boost your mental well-being, but you have to realise what a physical drain it can be and be prepared for it.

Hello.

I can't relate to the same extent, but I do understand what you mean.

You hit the deadline and that is an accomplishment. It is a positive thing.

If you don't feel like doing the run today, you could compromise and just go for a walk. I remember the professional advice that stress, anxiety and depression can be reduced with some exercise. It doesn't have to be a run.

This programme is to help you. It is not a list of demands that must be met. Delaying the next session by a day is not to be considered a failure.

You have decided to do the programme for yourself and staying with it after the first run is a commendable achievement for anyone.

I hope you find your way through this.
