I was really looking forward to getting this run done, then 12 minutes in something “popped” in my lower right calf. Had to hobble all the way home and have spent the last 30 minutes sobbing uncontrollably, much to the horror of my 19 year old son! To say I’m gutted is an understatement. I’ve been so chuffed with myself getting to W6 and now dont know what to do. Redo the run, redo week 6 , go back one or more weeks? How long do I wait once it feel ok, what can I do to stop it happening again? I’m so upset but also anxious about running It case it happens again. I know I’m probbaly overreacting but just feel totally deflated. ☹️
W6R3 - disaster! 😢: I was really looking... - Couch to 5K
W6R3 - disaster! 😢
I’d be getting it looked at - if something “popped” you might have an injury that needs proper treatment. Please don’t ignore it - knowing what is wrong and how to make it better will get you back to running sooner.
I would get that seen professionally, and rest until they advise. I don't want to be alarmist, it just sounds more than a niggle.
The programme will still be there when you are ready again.
Calm down. It’s one run. Your injury might not be anything serious and you might be lacing your shoes up in a few days.
Rest up, and get your calf checked out if needs be 👍🙂
I'd get it checked out before you run again. I did something similar a few years back and ended up with a cast on my right calf for weeks. All i did was get out of my car and slowly jog a couple yards up to the next layer of carpark to see if my friend had parked up there and as you say , something popped, and I couldn't put my heel to the floor. I limped all round the wildlife park in agony, and my 80 year old arthritic mum was having to wait for me to catch up. Made Drs appointment when I got home and ended up off work for about 6 weeks. ( I was a sewing machinist so couldn't treadle).
It might be as bad but get it checked. Fingers crossed for you
Have you had it checked out yet, Hels?
Hi Furlmouse, GP says not the Achilles which is good and spoken to a highly recommended sports physio who said it sounds like grade 1 tear. Rest, ice, heat and then if better after a week start back walking for 4 mins run for 1 for a total of 30 mins and see how it feels. It’s much better but still not right. I went for an early morning walk yesterday which was ok and I felt so much better for going. I’m missing the fresh air and exercise first thing which sets me up for the day.
I'm sorry about the tear, but glad it's not as bad as it might have been.
My husband had a grade 2 tear and he was our of commission for a few weeks, mainly I think because he started again too quickly .
Let it heal properly and you'll be back on form soon.
Thanks, yes I will take it slow and won’t be silly and try to do too much too soon. It’s very frustrating as it was all going so well and I was getting so much out of it, fitter, happier, more motivated. But it hasn’t even been a week and it feels so much better so hoping a gradual return will be ok.
