I'm at week seven (run 2) and really motivated but I seem to be getting even slower, is this normal? I'm really slow.

As long as you are running longer it matters not a jot what pace
Do you work up a bit of a sweat. Do your raise your breathing rate? Does your pulse increase? If so, then you are doing it right
Slow, slow, slow - welcome to my club. I’m not a sprinter I’m a runner and going out there doing it for 30 mins at a time is a pretty good achievement to begin with. I graduated in November and my body is only just beginning to realise that I go running and it is not just a one off fad . I’m sure you’ll get a flurry of replies saying slow good, fast bad. Plenty of time to increase pace later. The greatest feeling is the idea that I ‘go out for a run’ not ‘I go out for a walk’ . We’re learning new skills here and you never hear a musician worrying about playing faster, or an artist needing to paint quicker.
Good luck on your next few runs, and don’t worry about speed
Yup, you’re running for longer so with increasing distance comes a speed drop. It’s a Mo vs Usain fact!
Once you get distance under your belt you can work on the speed. Don’t fret, you’re doing just fine it’s one of those things that isn’t mentioned as far as I could see, and of course it’s not just the one off distances that are increasing, cumulatively you’ve done so much more too...
Thank you, hoped there was a good reason and this makes sense. I can already see quite a bit of physical change (in me) and this was my third run (with no walk breaks) in six days so may have just been getting tired. Loving it though...
Ha yeah I'm just the same and feel mixed emotions with being really happy about how far I've managed (week 6 currently) but then I feel embarrassed as I know I am going soooo slow. However it is still jogging and I am working up a sweat so it does still count but just wish I was a bit faster! My aim though is to jog for 30 minutes and then hopefully in the future after that big achievement I will try and go a bit faster but we will see. At the end of the day we are out there and doing it! Yay!!!!!
Just looked up the definition of jogging v running, they say that jogging is 'running' at less than 6 mph and running over 6 mph, so for us here on C25K completing the 5k in 30 minutes or less would be considered as running, over 30 minutes would be jogging, how many of you agree with that definition?
Well I can confirm I am definitely a jogger as my pace is a lot less than 6mph! lol
Me too
Great to see there are other slow ones out there! Yeah doing this after the affects of cancer treatments is really hard but we can and will do it!
As we use the same technique regardless of speed, my thoughts are the terms are interchangeable.
I am a runner
I am a jogger
Because I can 🏃🏼♀️
I did this programme about 5 years ago. But I didn’t continue running because I found I was going little more than walking pace and I was embarrassed and dis-spirited. If only I had known about this forum then, I would have known it is fine to be slow and I could have 5 years of running under my belt. I have just graduated again and I’m still slow but now I know it’s ok 😉.
I think you 'll find there are a lot of us slowbies on this forum. Join the club and enjoy. It's what you can do at this moment in time. You may or may not speed up but doing the exercise is much more important than how fast you do it. I have felt the same at times but now just doing it gives me a sense of achievement. Once you are fitter you will probably find that you speed up a bit. So keep those knees up. xx
Thank you Downtwo x
