How slow is too slow?

I’ve completed wk7 run 1 but am beginning to be really conscious of how slow I’m going. So how slow is too slow? I use my Fitbit at the same time as c25k and it’s estimating that I’m running a mile at around 14m30s so around 4.1mph or 6.6kmph

I know the point is to complete each run but I keep seeing all these times from people and thinking I must be moving like a snail in comparison!

Compared to me you’re a cheetah! I graduated back in July but still only achieve nine.something per Km with a 47-48 min 5k. Speed really isn’t important, just keep going with the programme and then there are other podcasts to help your speed once you graduate.

Thanks 😊 I think I just need to stop thinking of other people and concentrate on just doing me!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

The guide explains the recommended easy conversational pace, which equates to approximately 75% of your maximum heart rate, which is the perfect zone to build the solid aerobic base required to run faster and further, which is why it is the pace at which elite athletes spend up to 80% of their training time.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks - I’ll take a look at the stretching again as my hips really hurting from my last run

Generally it's the faster people who post times. You do you!

Not always Blackberrypie, several people have been posting a 45/55 minutes time for a 5K and a few +60 minutes, it's not all about speed but running continuously for whatever it takes.

That's true - one of the nice things about this forum is that you do get people happy to share their slower times knowing that their achievement will be recognised and celebrated. Other places get a bit too competitive and it's easy to feel back of the pack because the times posted are only the top end ones!

I’ll take a look for the slower ones like me 🤣 I’ll try get speed out of my head and just concentrate on completing each run

My times match Overweight’s Roch_uk! Avg 5km time is 48 minutes. Most people run faster than they walk- I can walk faster than I run! I don’t think there’s a ‘too slow’ - if you’re running, you’re running. Embrace your inner snail!

That made me chuckle 😄 that’ll be my new mantra rather than just keep swimming!

I dunno you know... how does this look? Is this too slow?

That’s what I watched before I started but I can’t see how fast that actually is - certainly looks a little faster than I go!

Honestly, I really wouldn't get worked up about this. Your pace is YOUR pace and comparison truly is the thief of joy.

I'm not as fast as either Mo Farah or the fast club runners at the front of 5k park runs but who cares? I certainly don't. Neither should you!

ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY!

There is no 'too slow !'. I'm hoping to join the snail club, just as soon as I can catch one. Keep at it, many posts here say that you will naturally pick up the pace in time.Good luck.

Thanks 😊 yeah I’m grateful as a few weeks ago the idea of running more than 3 minutes was impossible to me. As oldgirlruns says, I’m going to embrace my inner snail!

I’m now on week 7 and have not yet checked distance/time. Just can’t believe how I’m enjoying running. 60 next year and never thought I’d like it, as I’m definitely not the “sporty “ type

Love reading all the posts and find everyone so inspiring 😄

Aw that’s lovely and well done on week 7! I used to be very sporty so I think that’s why I’m harder on myself.

Agree with the inspiration, this is a great programme and I’m enjoying it far more than I thought I would
