W2R1 - rainy again!! 🌧

No pain no gain they say and it is certainly true. Week 2 commenced got out in the rain. Without a doubt my heart and lungs are responding well and the longer runs were no problem from a cardio perspective and i find that really encouraging.

The problems are with my lower legs, left calf and right shin muscle (don't know what that's called) both tightened up and I was hobbling along at the end. No lasting damage I am sure but it would be easy to give up. I am really hoping for some improvement with my legs in the coming weeks. Got to get the weight off but I don't know if I can cope with a diet as well as this πŸ˜‚.

Looking forward to W2R2 on Wednesday.

My legs really ached for the first week, did some stretches before and after run 3 on Sunday and they seemed to help, no aching this morning at all!

Starting week two tomorrow so hopefully more stretching and less aches!

Hello Matt,

Look after yourself with these painful legs. Too much pain doesn't sound right to me. Sounds like you're doing really well with the determination . It might be an idea to think about a slight diet change: running doesn't automatically lead to weight loss and sometimes people post on here saying they are a bit disappointed. From my experience fat turns to muscle, clearly a good thing, but there isn't necessarily a corresponding weight loss.

Good luck and happy running. Keep posting!

You are so right and in the back of my head I know that the diet needs to change as well. All the pain is muscular in muscles that haven't been used for years. Hope to be able to manage the pain with stretching and rest between runs. Determined to avoid any significant joint pain.

The reality is that this is a long journey back from a physical state that I should never of got in and for that I have no one but myself to blame πŸ˜€

Forget the blame s**t ! You're out there doing something about it. Give yourself a pat on the back!

Hi Matt I am afraid that the running alone will not be enough re the weight ...diet are awful but do work. As for painful legs - are your running shoes up to the task? Get yourself fitted for new proper shoes and maybe this will keep you motivated? It did for me ie no waste got to use those dratted shoes!!
