Well that was fun

I did my first parkrun today. I haven’t actually graduated yet, this was my W9R2. But my next door neighbour Steve offered to take me so I didn’t want to refuse his kind offer. He is a member of a running club and did the London marathon last year so I was a bit worried he might push me. But he was brilliant and let me go at my pace. I ran the whole 5k and felt great and I was chatting to Steve all the way round!! If you’d asked me after my run on Friday I’d have said I’d try to run about 3 and half k. As you can probably tell I am still on a high 6 hours later. Thanks to the C25K app, this forum, neighbour Steve and my 58 year old legs and lungs I CAN RUN 5K 😅🎈🎉🎈🎉🎈🎉

Congratulations! I did one last week for my W7R2 but I followed the programme so just a 25 minute run. My next will be after I graduate.

I thought about following the app but as I am so close to graduating I thought I’d leave my phone at home and see how I felt. I definitely didn’t push myself but I was very surprised I ran it all because the furthest I’ve gone with the app is 3.5k.

Sounds awesome, congratulations. Inspiring post as my legs are the same age so this is very encouraging to read. I'm only starting W3 tomorrow and will remember this when I start flagging at 3 mins. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic achievement ClarriePan!! It feels so great doesn't it? Was meant to do my wk9r2 today but my brother in law arrived from Canada yesterday and I was a little (ahem) hungover. Going to do it tomorrow. We are going to graduate this week. Cannot believe it!

That sounds like a very reasonable excuse to me. Well done on your journey. It seems like a magic trick to me this C25K malarkey. One minute running in week one was awful and like everyone I thought I’ll never do 30 minutes I’ll die😄. But the fairies sprinkle their dust and it happens🧚‍♀️
