Well after what's been a crazy few weeks with one Illness after another I am back and trying to get back to it... last week I managed 4K but today I have barely managed 2k before becoming dizzy... recently been diagnosed with ibs so my tummy is so unpredictable... how would people approach a return after a few sporadic weeks... 5k seriously feels in achievable at the moment 🙁

Start with the basics: maker sure you’re well hydrated and have eaten recently enough that you’re not feeling hungry, but not so recently that it will make you feel ill...

Personally I’d probably go back to about week 5 of the programme, as I find Laura talking me through things so much easier than having to work out my own structure. After using the podcasts as mnayntimes as I have over the past five years, I think I have a Pavlovian reaction to her voice saying ‘go’! :D

On the other hand, you ran 4K last week, and can’t have lost so much fitness since then, so it sounds as though this morning was just One Of Those Days when it just feels difficult and uncomfortable. So give it another try and see how you go...

Just take it very very slowly...simple as that.... no distance in mind...just getting those running legs going again.

Don;t think about how far...how fast...just run.... :)

Thank you for being the voice of reason... I have had my partner nagging me and he sent me out this morning to 'keep up the running' so I went to shut him up and regret it as I now feel rubbish... I think I shall have to build up a bit... maybe throw in some walks and be less harsh on myself... I just feel like my body is working against me... 🙁

That is it... be kind to yourself... it has taken me a while to get back on track after being on the IC..but it comes.... just take it gently and keep posting.. we do get so much from the support of our forum friends:)

Yeah so true... I have missed running so I think I need to get back to it slow and steady and post regularly... x

There are lots of returners at the moment so you are not alone. Winter and all the bugs seem to have taken a toll. Oldfloss as usual gives very sound advice. I would say, set yourself small goals and give yourself lots of praise when you achieve them. Make sure you run 3 times a week and take it easy.

I think running 3 times a week is definitely top of the goal list so that's a good place to start... I have just got to work out when to fit them in with the kids being on school holidays even if it means using the treadmill at the gym... I will get there- just hope others can inspire me too on here x

Hi Teri I wondered where you had gone, so a warm welcome back. You've ran twice recently after a break, be kind with yourself and set a time to run for/ walk / run if needed. You will soon be back to great form :)

Hello 👋 Been poorly so just about clinging onto Sanity... but yeah, plan in place to build myself back up... I will get there... aiming now to get to three runs a week and let the rest come as is needed x

Sorry things have been rough with your health, if physically getting better then running is ideal for the restoration of sanity! Your plan sounds great go gently and enjoy x
