I'm just retired and started running Couch25k with my daughter. I have not run for over 20 years. And then had flu for 10 weeks, coughing and breathless. Now have an inhaler ( for first time in my life!!).
Did week 1 for 5 runs thinking I'll not rush things and then today we did week 2 run 1. We did the 5 min warm up walk and as soon as I started to run I had a shooting pain up the back of my right thigh, I managed to keep going but the leg got worse and worse until I was barely able to put weight on it. It wasn't cramp!! But I'm not sure what it was. We managed to finish the whole run but it was slow!! Slower than my first week 1 run!!
Then when we finally got home I ran a hot bath with Radox in and soaked for a bit and now my leg is fine. So what the hell was it?? I've had cramp before but that was still tender for a couple of days so I am puzzled by this pain. It ran from the front crease of my leg around the back of my leg down to my knee. But now nothing at all!!!
I'm hoping that it does not return on Wednesday which will be my next run. Fingers crossed

Don’t think it’s hamstring - I’ve had that before and that started with like a really bad cramp pain in the middle of my butt cheek, and went down outer back of my leg. This was round the front and inside of thigh.
Still feeling fine so I’ve done some easy stretches to keep loose and will do more tomorrow and some foam roller exercises. Might leave two days between runs. I’ll see how I go but I’m not going to set myself back by aggravating. An injury.
Thanks for everyone's advice. I've spent 2 days soaking in Radox baths, gentle stretching, rolling on Franklin Method spikey balls, rubbing Ibuleve into the muscle , doing lots of walking and generally moving and loosening up my thigh.
Then this morning I felt so much better that I did loosening up exercises, drank water, ate a banana and decided I'd go out and attempt week 2 run 2.
I thought as soon as it hurts at all I'll just walk the rest of the way but luckily... no pain. Little stiff in first run but I kept my speed down and kept going - tried to make my walks as brisk as possible to compensate and sailed through. Really glad I went now. And I was only fractionally slower than my last run.
When I came back I did lots of cooling down stretches and then had a Radox bath and plenty of water to drink. Been for a walk this afternoon too and still feel great so fingers crossed I'm sorted now.
I have ordered another pair of trainers too so I have a good pair at my house AND at my daughter for when I go visit and we run together.
Thanks again for all your support and I think j maybe I was just pushing myself too fast ( running with my daughter who is half my age prob doesn't help) as I'm a bit competitive. So from now on I'm running at MY pace 😁
