Week 4 repeated Day 2

I finally did it! Managed to run for the full 16 minutes today. So strange since I haven’t been able to get past 12 minutes before today. I wanted to stop many times but managed the first 5 minute segment well and then really struggled during the last 5 minute segment and the small hernia on my left leg was playing up. I think I’ll need to get a support bandage for it as it makes my leg ache. The main thing is I managed to finish because my lungs seemed a bit better. I took my asthma inhaler as usual before going out this morning and it really seemed to kick in today. I think my determination to finish was also stronger today and I ran extra slow. That definitely works so thanks for all the good advice regarding that here. Of course I’m high as a kite now as I can see that I’ll be able to do the run. Yaaaayyyy!!!

Great job... very well done, keep that pace right about there!

Thank you. I will. I did feel like I was practically walking but I’m sure it was faster than I think.

Almost certainly... but pace is the least important thing... the time will have you fitter sooner at a slower pace... and the running action will strengthen your legs up regardless of pace. Slower running will also make you faster in the long term. For me C25K is about becoming a runner who actually enjoys getting out there... once that is achieved you can reach all the other goals you may have with regards to pace or distance.

Yes exactly. My leg hernia is definitely an issue and I’ll have to wear a support. I need a minor operation to repair it. So doubt I can run fast outside anyway.

Thank you. You too. Keep up the good work. It does get easier. I've discovered that the answer is to go at my own pace. Eventually there will be a day where you will want to push yourself. Today was that day for me. The rest of the days have been just trying to get through. Today was my push day. Most days will be just getting through for me.

Well done.

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.

To be honest, my lungs are so dodgy that I couldn’t run fast anyway. At the moment I’m struggling to go at a pace that’s barely faster than a walk. But I did it and it’s a good start.
