Hi all! Just joined the forum. I’m extremely overweight at 22st and I’m due to start week 4 but I’m so anxious and scared of failing! I can jog with my running club for 1 mile so why am I getting so hung up over 5 minutes?? Please tell me I can do this!

My god Helen, If you can do one mile you can do 5 minutes. You are amazing and incredible and have this in the bag. Please keep us posted and let us know. After 20 mins I have found it easier not stop starting and have found pacing and more technique. You will also lost inches on this plan so don't give up. XX

No run is a failure, just a practice for the next run!

You’re already doing more than those who do nothing......

You can do this (and I'm not saying that just because you asked us to)

Getting to week 4 means you are doing really well , keep it going . Like you , i started the programme well overweight - 21st 6 , i completed it in 9 weeks in January and at the moment I weigh 18st 1 , what i found best for me was to stretch really well before and after each session . I did all my running on grass as i found it much easier on my joints , oh and a proper pair of runners , hope this helps you , very best of luck 👍

Yes it does. One question though. I have just finished week 8 and not seeing any difference in weight. When did you start noticing difference?

I did c25k in conjunction with a healthy eating plan , so i can say i lost weight each week . Because i had ( and have ) alot of weight to lose , i guess in some way it was obvious fairly quickly . From what I understand , doing c25k only , probably won’t result in big weight loss ( as the first 8 weeks are not long enough in duration ) , it needs to be 30 min plus sessions , so i think healthy eating and drinking lots of water while doing c25k will have huge results. Best of luck

Yes food is the problem. Can't resist cakes, chocolates. Will try to improve diet. And soon will be running 30+. Thanks for sharing this information, Chairmanoftheboards!

You cannot fail at this programme, unless you go back to the couch permanently. Any run that is not completed is simply repeated after a rest day.

Read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... for basic tips. Also browse through the other FAQ posts at healthunlocked.com/couchto5... for more info.

A positive attitude is half the battle.

You can do it.

Amazing.🌟👏👏

Really impressed.

Not that it matters, but even running at 10km/ hr pace, it would take you 10 mins to run a mile.So your maybe running already for maybe 15- 20 mins already.

Your doing great.👍

Just slow and steady it is the only way to do this.🤔🌟👏👏

You are awesome 😎

You got this, it takes about 12ish minutes to jog a mile so 5 minutes is going to be a breeze

If you’re doing a mile, then 5 minutes should be a breeze. You can do it, and of course you will. If you’ve been running with folk, you will already know all about pacing yourself and the 5 minute marker is just a different measure.

You’ll hear us all say slow and steady is the way to go, and that is what will get you through - oh and your grit too - which evidently you have because you’re on W4.

Brilliantly done you happy running in W4

You have followed the programme so far and it's worked out ok, so you are ready for this. Have you got the podcast or app to keep you company? I found them really helpful when I was doing the programme so that I didn't have to think about timing the intervals. Just take it really slow and steady and you'll be fine.

Good luck. :-)

Visualise how you will feel having completed it rather than how you think you will feel doing it. Sometimes this has helped carry me through. I think you will be fine tho. Keep us posted how it went 😉

When I first started I was scared too. More than physical, I was mentally exhausted. But after week 8 I feel like I can run almost every day. I really look forward to it. And satisfaction I get after run is immense. Keep doing what you are doing. You have already finished first 3 weeks. You are not very far from finishing line. Well done!

You know what Helen, I don’t know you at all but I am proud of you. You are an inspiration to all those other people who would desperately like do do something about their weight and you’re doing it. You’re out there, we’ll done girl. I’m a first timer and still in week one, so not qualified to offer advice but just remember, left foot right foot and so it goes on. Really, really well done! X

Don’t worry about it! If it’s too hard, don’t fret, just leave it a day and try again. Week 4 is great and this app works, trust it and just take it gently. Good luck!

As we all said - well done for trying AND for completing . We all of us know the feeling of fear before something new but the satisfaction of doing the new and also completing it. I think that is one of the reasons why this program is so brilliant. You start off very small but soon find yourself completing longer and longer distances with more time running than walking. You will too...and good luck with the weight as well - getting healthy is the best thing I have done in years...hope it’s the same with you.👏🏻👍🏻

You can do it Helen, just focus on a lamppost at a time and the five minutes will soon be gone! And the sense of achievement afterwards will far outweigh any pain in getting there!
