W8R2 - GBH averted

Panting and sweating around the 20 min mark, a man on a bike yelled out to tell me;

“You need to watch what you eat. You won’t loose weight just from running. You need a healthy diet as well”

Lucky for him, I didn’t have the breath to push him off his bike or hurl verbal abuse at him.

Perhaps he thought he was giving me helpful advise that I wasn’t aware of!!!!!

nyaaaarrggghhhhh some people!! he's lucky he got away from you, I'm sure, but in many ways he's unlucky, imagine how dreary it must be to live inside such a tiny mind!

Ooooh, cheeky beggar. One day you’ll be able to catch him up and kick him off 😄

Honestly, what is wrong with people!! I had someone shout out of a car that I need to join slimming world - it really upset me, especially as I was still losing baby weight.

You’re doing amazing and it doesn’t matter what other small minded, ignorant people say or think. 😊

I wonder if he was on a strict diet and cycling to lose weight at the same time? It's amazing how we project our own insecurities onto other people ;)

My first reaction was probably not suitable language for this forum! I love how people tell you these things like they expect you to say “ Do I need to lose a bit of weight? So glad you told me, I never knew!” Listening to music probably prevents me having to hear any of this.

That being said, when I was running with my daughter the other day a man cycled past and shouted “ Well done runners. You’re doing a great job” so not everybody is a prat 😉

Keep going Woo45. We can’t all be perfect but we are getting better everyday.

Further to my last post, a runner just swore at my visually impaired friend because her guide dog got in his way so there are prats everywhere! 😊

How rude! Ignore the ignorants and keep doing your thing! You are doing great! Better every day! And that's what matters the most :)

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I only have to open my mouth about running & ppl who have never even left the couch, let alone put on a pair of trainers, come out as world authorities on the subject & start spewing all manner of technical 'advice'. Much of which involves warning me off entirely - 'It's the joints, didn't you know? You'll destroy them ...'

Thank you all for your words. On a happier note, we all receive the odd encouraging smile from other runners. These smiles warm every muscle in my body. The smiles are worth so much more than the rare rude and ridiculous comments. Keep smiling and running!

I remember worrying about this kind of thing happening before I started the program. Then after a a while I fell in love running so much and it started making so many positive changes that I thought people can say whatever they want this is too important to get put off by some passing idiot loudmouth. Good on you for not letting it get to you 👍

BTW what he said is rubbish. Running the c25k got me to lose about 6 stone and run a marathon. Directly through the exercise and indirectly by helping me find a healthy eating, low alcohol lifestyle preferable to my old bad ways. I'd have never done that just by going a diet.
