Week 2 Day 3

I completed week 2 day 3 yesterday and I am having so many doubts!! My shins hurt - do I have shin splits or are do my shins just hurt?

Do I need proper running trainers?

I’m 3 stone overweight, am I damaging my joints by putting so much pressure on them?

Sorry for all the questions and self doubt.

You may need better shoes.

I suspect your shins just hurt. Mine did too. Invest in a massage roller and roller them every night. It does work. I never realised that part of my shin had that much muscle to hurt in it!

Maybe try slowing your pace down too. Don't push too hard too soon.

On the shoe front, they can make a huge difference. You may need extra comfort or support with the added weight. If you can afford it have gait analysis too. Knowing how you're running and what pressure is putting put on where is the best way to get you in the right shoes. It can also help you as I know when I run I try to concentrate on a clean stride.

You can do it and it will get easier 👍😊

Thank you so much for the reply, it really is appreciated. Will definitely invest in a roller and take your advice on board about the running shoes 😊.

Have you read the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it includes advice about going slowly and not overstriding, which are common rookie errors.

I did read the plan, found it really helpful. I am running at a snails pace - honestly! I worked out that at the pace that I’m going, I would finish 5k in 40 mins.

Okay, but if you need to go slower, go slower.

Many in your position have found having a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop and finding the best shoes for them, has worked wonders.

Thank you so much for the advice. I’m off to a running shop on Friday for gait analysis thanks to the advice, yours included, on here and the start up guide.
