Novice couch potato first session

I am just so unfit! First run of 60 seconds made me so out of breath ☹️ But it did get better as I continued to walk and run. I am feeling it in my legs now though. I am eating a healthy diet now and have lost nearly half a stone in last 4 weeks😊 I need to lose another 2 stone to be a healthy weight.

Well done! The 1st steps to a new you! Not only physically, as running has a great impact on life in general and mental wellbeing too. Don't worry - very many of us were all unfit and perhaps 'larger than necessary' at the start of all of this, thinking how on earth will we get to run 30 mins. But we did and so can you and you will be so utterly thrilled when you do! Just follow the programme - it works and take it slow. It may sometimes be a bit hard but it's not impossible. And you will feel like you have really achieved something great.

Well done on the weight loss too! :)

Welcome and well done getting started. Go really slowly (as slow as a brisk walk if necessary) to help you breathe more comfortably. Enjoy your journey!

Well done and welcome!

You've proved you've got staying power by losing that weight so apply to your running and you'll be fine.

You can do this ... good luck and happy running!

The good news is that (in my experience and I think backed by theory), the ability to adjust breathing develops quite quickly. The muscles and bones take a little longer. So - be slow and let all your systems adapt over time. And, really, give yourself plenty of credit for togging up, doing up your laces, wrestling with technology and getting out there. You’re already off that couch!!!!

What a fabulous first post Couch-potato , you sound like you are committed to this healthy malarkey and I'm sure you're going to succeed. The programme really works if you stick with it, follow the advice and take it real slow. Good luck - I hope you're feeling proud. :-)

Hi, just wondered how you are doing now with the programme? I'm also turning 48 this year and have two teenage children. I needed to get fit again and lose a stone. I qualified as a nurse 18 months ago and 12 hour day and night shifts have really had an impact on my weight gain, lack of regular opportunities to exercise and stress levels. I'm hoping to get my exercise 'mojo' back now the weather is getting better!

Hi, It's going ok thanks. Went for week 2 run 1 today this has been delayed due to work commitments and then snow. Run today went ok but found the 90 second runs hard but I didn't give up. How things for you?😊

Hi, glad you are sticking with it, I've planned in third week 1 run for Friday, but am also doing the strength &a flex training 3 times a week so doing one of those today after a night shift and 2 hrs sleep, thought I could handle that better today instead.
