STEP UP DILEMMA

Hi ,everyone been off line for a while working hard , I’ve just completed W3R3 I must say it’s flying by . But now I have a bit of a dilemma, the step up to 3 minutes especially the last segment of the run has been a bit of a struggle. Looking at W4R1 I’m not sure I’m going to survive it and was looking for a bit of advice. Should I go for it and see what happens, or would it be more advisable to do another couple of W3 runs and then step it up to W4 ? Heeeelllllppppppp !!!!!!

Hi Bean - I suggest going for it. I am about to start my final Wk3 run today. So I too will start Week4 on next week (Monday). I posted on here when I first started that i looked ahead and was dreading week 4. Now its a case of bring it on. Yes it will be tough but as the experienced ones will say just take it slow and steady, and thats what I will do. So run with me and we will both comment on our Week 4 Run 1 when we do them and I bet we will both say "Hey it was bad but not SO BAD" Good luck bud

Each week is a challenge but you are ready to move on. I felt like this about every week but managed each one without repeats. When it feels tough, slow down. Have faith in yourself and in the programme

You sound just like me last week, when I was completing Week 3. I was thinking - well, 3 minutes is tough - I'm managing it but only just. So I was REALLY worried about the Week 4 5-minute runs.

Anyway, I decided to give it a go, and I did it! I thought the first 5 minutes was never going to end, but managed it. Then when I got to the last 5 minutes I thought I wouldn't complete it, but I just about did (man, it was tough). The trick was to keep it slow and steady, right from the first 3-minute run.

So my advice is, give it a go! Best of luck and please report back.

Jo

Hi bertiesugar , Cheers , I think it’s the old self doubt thing , what I should do is not look at what is coming up the following week and just get on with it . Good luck with your run today, and I’ll let you know how I got on . Thanks

I started Week4 on Monday and was apprehensive about it too... kept telling myself 5 mins it too long but it’s just mind over matter, and if others can do it, so can I. Once you pass the first couple of minutes, you get into a steady rhythm with your breathing and you surprise yourself... you can do it, go for it!🙂🏃🏻‍♂️

Thank you for the advice, I must admit when I did the first 3 minute run I couldn’t believe how fast that passed by . Good luck with your running

Firstly, well done for getting to W4!

... and secondly, yes, go for it. If you've completed W3 of this wonderful program you're ready for W4.

So get your running shoes on, do what your coach tells you and before you know it you'll be starting W5.

Good luck and happy running!

I would definitely go for it! I felt exactly the same. But the step up wasn’t as bad as I first thought, my advice would be to take it slow not to blow yourself out. By the end of the 3rd one you will be asking yourself why were you worried! Good luck 😊

I repeated week 3 as for me that was the hardest week. Then week 4 was fine. It’s really good to get a solid foundation in order to gear up to the longer runs. I repeated two and three as I was a total none runner. I am now on week 7...
