It’s not going well

So after the gait analysis and new trainers, I waited for the knee pain to subside and started week 3 again. 1st run my ankle was throbbing, but I thought it was a side affect of my new foot position. 2nd run was painful!

Now I have had a swollen ankle for a week! It looks like a sprained ankle! Never had ankle problems before.

I’m feeling really disappointed and disheartened!

Feeling like running isn’t for me. 🙁

Would be sensible to have the ankle checked out by your GP. Try not to get too despondent and do not let this set back get the better of you. Life isn't always straightforward or easy. Good things come to those who work hard at something. Once you have healed properly, running WILL be for you and you will reap the benefits too.

You probably went out to soon and your knee was maybe not fully better. You may have over compensated almost unknowingly, hence the ankle pain.

Our enthusiasm often makes us try to get out there again too soon :)

Rest and Ice the ankle, but keep it moving gently. Try these knee exercises too and wear your trainers in the house, to get used to them.

Plenty of other exercises to keep you going whilst you recover... squats..strength exercises and stamina... don't give up just yet.

Many of us have felt we were destined to remain in the IC for ever... the runs will still be there...you just need to be really ready for them:)

Personally, I don't think that people should even think about C25K until they have done a month or so of walking 5 days per week for at least 30 minutes per time - and frankly some would need much more than that. EVERYBODY can run - but there are no quick fixes!!!

You’re dead right. Once the ankle is healed I think I’ll go for several brisk walks before starting the running.

Hi Nic - gentle swimming might also help with the ankle.

Thanks Katie, I may try that as well. Need to stay in the habit of moving!
