Wk 6 run 1 - not good

So i was feeling like i was getting somewhere, smashed the 20 minute run last week but really struggled to complete last nights run which was a total of 18 mins with walking breaks. Feeling demotivated!

Heya, I think quite a few people have the same experience. I know I found Week 6 Run 1 surprisingly difficult after W5R3! I put it down to the shift back to stopping and starting again? It does get better though - congrats on starting Week 6!

Try to think, steady and smooth... not smash.

Just relax into the longer runs..that is what the beauty of them is... Let the newly found running legs find their own happy pace.

Don't push it..they know what they are doing... up your stamina and strength exercises on rest days too.. that is equally important:)

Breathe gently, relax the shoulders... take everything in...

"Fast enough to get there...slow enough to see"

You will be fine:)

I am old. I ran a marathon , but I started same as you on Day 1

I don’t get demotivated. I just dig deeper. It’s so worth doing I can’t tell you 😃👍

Certainly not thinking of packing it in, also not expecting to run a marathon.

But it was the first time in the 6 weeks i've been running (yes a whole 6 weeks) that i really really struggled and yes, i felt demotivated as every other time i've been out i came back feeling euphoric!

I always warn people, after they post their W5R3 triumph, that W6R1 catches many out.

Don't just look at the running intervals, it is the overall time of the workout that counts, unless of course you can walk briskly without any expenditure of effort.

W6R1 is in fact the longest workout to date in the programme, so you need to pace yourself, not charge away thinking that you have got this running thing taped, simply because you managed to run for twenty minutes in the previous run. It is psychologically as difficult for the new runner as W5R3, but by following the instructions to go slowly you are easily physically capable of it if you have a positive and cautious mental approach.

Every run is training for the next one, even the ones that don't go as well as hoped.

Hohoho, that sneaky bastard week 6 run 1. Even though I had been warned, and after breezing along on the previous 20 minute run, I still found it tough. Don't worry, it will soon be behind you. It's all part of the cunning c25k plan - and it works.

You smashed the 20 minute run because the plan works. Trust the plan. It still works in weeks 6 to 9!
