A lurker making herself known...

Hello everyone, I'm sort of new around here (although a lurker).

I did C25k about six years ago and loved it, but then fell down one step (one step!) and tore all the ligaments in my right ankle and ruptured a tendon, which unfortunately developed into post-traumatic flat foot. I've had three operations since then, including a fairly nasty ankle reconstruction, with my last op being May 2017.

My surgeon told me not to run for 6 months so I dutifully waited until the New Year, declared myself cured, started the programme and completed W5R2 this evening. I can't describe the wonder of being able to walk, let alone run without pain and have even become one of those odd balls - a run commuter (I don't live far from work!).

I obviously want to get fit and healthy and work towards the goal of completing the programme, but I have a further goal that I've been a little shy to tell many people I actually know about. I'm working on getting fit in order to join the Royal Navy Reserves. I've wanted to join up for the past couple of years but have always been stopped by my ankle, so now seems like the perfect time to make the dream of wearing a sailor suit a reality.

I'm taking it slow and steady and not pushing myself too hard, but am hoping to start the process of joining up in June once I'm 12 months operation free! In the meantime, I'm looking forward to the challenge of W5R3 and all the future runs!

Welcome lurker.

Have you read the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Gosh what am amazingly inspirational story. You have committed to a long term plan to follow a dream, and I sincerely hope you get in the RN Reserves.

With that commitment I am guessing W5R3 is toast...

Happy running for the rest of C25K and your June join up.
