Foot pain advice please!

I am a frustrated convert to this running malarkey! Thoroughly committed to the 5k programme and feeling very proud of my progress when bam I get a serious dose of heel pain. I presumed it was because I had run on uneven ground and different trainers (on hols) and so I stopped running to allow time to heal (no pun intended!). I have seen a physio who gave me some exercises and advised I rest up until it’s better but it has been weeks now and I’m getting really frustrated.

Now I have always had superb advice from you lovely fellow members and the burning question is do you think I should run through the initial pain and get back on the programme or continue resting? I am doing some cycling to help keep up fitness but so missing the runs now I’ve started. I worry I will go back to week 1 again and all my efforts in the past will have been for nothing. Help!! 😳 xx

Have you had a gait analysis done?

My physio said I was overpronating but didn’t advocate insoles or special trainers. She has given me exercises to do instead. I have the added issue of one leg longer than the other (only slightly - I don’t ‘rock’ when I walk lol!) but have had it since childhood plus I have some residual foot drop following a slipped disc. An old crock really!! 🙄 xx

If you are in pain the problem has not been addressed.

See my answer to the question after yours.

Have you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I absolutely devoured your wonderful guide when I started this journey but feel a bit confused at what to do to protect myself from it happening again. Add in the total frustration of having to stop running for several weeks now to explain why I asked a silly question

My physio has certainly reinforced your advice for getting it better but didn’t think gait analysis and insoles / new trainers were the answer for me.

You said in your post “see my answer to the question after yours” but I’m not sure where I should be looking! Sorry to be such a dimwit 😔 xx
